Need some serious prayers

DD and DSIL were informed last week that they are to be out of the house they are renting by the first of May.This is putting them in a serious bind,especially with DD's injury and everything going on with that,plus the fact that SIL is in PA and she and dgs are here alone.Anyway,long story short,they found a house to buy and are to put an offer on it today.

Please pray that everything will work out with this house or that they will have a home by the end of April.I am a firm believer that everything happens for a reason and this may not work out but I also believe in the power of prayer,and I know there are some powerful "prayers" here!LOL TIA

thank goodness they've found a house! lets hope, and pray the sellers are motivated to get out asap! if not those "pod" storage bins are a great way to keep things in order, if they have to have temp housing...

tell dd to get a power of attorney, so if the sellers accept the offer and the house passes inspection, she can sign papers if sil can't be there...i had to do that a couple of times when we were the sellers and dh was out of state on the new job...it was a big stress reliever not to have to wait around for dh to fly in...

Prayers that things work out for the best. Hopefully, the sellers are accepting of the price. With the housing 'slump' they may be glad for the sale.

The OP never said they have water problems. They said they have high humidity. Quite likely they're referring to outdoor humidity. I live in south Florida so I'm familiar with high humidity. Most homes here are climate controlled all year long. Many houses visible from my desk have solid wood flooring that was installed in houses here that are largely uninsulated and were built before air conditioning became prevalent and they're largely in good shape. Some solid exotics are problematic in regards to humidity swings but engineered floors only have issues when subjected to extremely low humidity or flooding. Wood seems a feasible option in this case of this poster. Even the least expensive items I have seen are reasonably stable. The effect of low cost is generally manifested in lower grade veneer or shorter lengths. I have nothing against wood look ceramic but it will never will never give you the board lengths, color depth and variety of a product like Triangulo 1/2" x 5-1/4" engineered plank. Additionally, one needs to consider the leveling aspect of using wood look ceramics. From what I've heard and read, the subfloor has to be very level before installation of square edged wood look tiles. All that said, I've often advised people that they'd be better off with carpet, vinyl, tile or another hard surface floor, when it was obvious that their situation was problematic for wood, even though I only sell wood.

How do you feel about a shag rug and glass waterfall coffee table or a larger 2-tiered glass table? This black & white rug is a little overdone in design pics, but it does seem to work on top of carpeting and with your modern decor. With your beige carpet and yellow walls, I'd be afraid to add too many other colors in a rug. I think giving the room a vertical element using curtains with a contrasting border would offset all of the elongated pieces (sofa, settee, coffee table and window).

That is really terrible for it to have corroded in that manner after a relatively short period of time. When I remodeled, the metal had corroded on the shower frame but that was on a metal frame that had been installed in 1965. I would attempt to get some kind of refund from Home Depot because it is not "normal" for any metal to perform so poorly when it is being used in the manner for which it is intended. With consumer goods there is always a warranty of merchantability which means that the item is "fit" to be sold. In terms of replacing it, I agree that the best way to proceed is to get a higher quality product which should not become pitted. I recently remodeled and had Showerguard glass used and I have absolutely no streaking or film and I do NOT squeegee or dry after each shower. Since you have no protection you should first get the scum off the glass - I would imagine there are glass cleaners that would completely get the scum off. After it is clean you are going to need to squeegee the shower each time it is used. You should also ONLY use liquid shower soap as bar soaps have ingredients that cause scum to build up versus liquid shower which doesn't cause scum especially when you squeegee to get rid of anything that might streak.

Thanks for additional photos. The room has three purposes at the moment: storage for water bottles and other bulky things (sleeping bag, vacuum, paper towels, etc.), clothes storage (on clothes rod) and laundry. Here are some comments: 1- I agree that adding the water bottle racks would be the first priority. They can go conveniently to the right of the entrance where the hanging clothes racks are. 2- Remove the 70% of clothes that you say you can get rid of. Can the remainder go in regular closets elsewhere? 3- Take everything else out to declutter unused things. Many of us have a stash of "dog towels" that we use frequently for cleanup, but sometimes this stash needs weeding out with extras donated to the local veterinarian or animal shelter. 4- Try using a towel bar to hang things that need extra attention before washing that you are not quite ready to tackle. It gets those things off the floor, out of the baskets, and off the tops of the washer and dryer. 5- An alternative laundry method that keeps the area clear of "pending" laundry is to bring only one load of laundry to the laundry area at one time. For example, one load of sheets, not all the sheets in the house, is brought in and started in the washer. When you move that load to the dryer, bring in the next load for the washer. For clothes, this method means using good size laundry hampers or existing laundry baskets in each bedroom. Sort the darks and lights before you bring one or the other to the laundry room. 6- Removable wallpaper or large colorful artwork can cheer up a room. Please make sure they have a home inspection as soon as the PSA is signed. It's the best money they can spend.

Susan-They will be able to do most of the preliminaries and paperwork by phone and fax and when the final signing is done DSIL will fly home.
Msmarion-Inspection is to be done if the offer is accepted with an inspector of DD and DSIL's choice and paid for by the seller.This house has been on the market for more than 6 months.The Realtor listing it has had it for 5 months and the price has been reduced once.Hopefully they are desperate enough to sell that they will accept the offer.DGS (he's 8) is already decorating his room and is going to be mighty disappointed if it doesn't go through.LOL
