Sounds like she needs to have a conversation with her obgyn.

Along with seeing her doctor, which she probably has, she should give it a rest for awhile. Women are more likely to miscarry when they become pregnant very soon after a previous pregnancy or miscarriage. Three pregnancies in three years is a lot.

Anyway, there is my non-professional advice. I'm sorry she is having this problem. I'm sure it is heartbreaking for her.

Has she had her thyroid antibodies checked? This is a test you must ask for, the doctors will check your TSH and say your thyroid is fine .. but the TSH can be normal even if the thyroid antibodies are way off.

Not saying this is her problem, but a simple blood test can rule it out.

I'm very sorry to hear about her miscarriages. I had 2 before I had my daughter. This was back in the early 1970's.
I'm not sure why they happen, my doctor never explained it to me. I think this is one of the reasons I'm so against abotions. I believe if you were meant to have that baby nothing will prevent it from being born.

Miscarriage in early pregancy often occurs because the "implantation" doesn't go correctly. I had trouble conceiving but when I did, I would miscarry early on. One time I wasn't even sure I was pregnant. Did she have a D&C done each time after she miscarried? It was recommended for me so that there wasn't a chance of there being any tissue left from the pregnancy. I would then have to wait three cycles before trying again. I ended up having to have a surgery to correct a "malformation" in my uterus and actually got pregnant the first month after that when my doctor didn't think I would. Had a wonderful pregnancy and a beautiful baby boy who is now almost 32! However, never conceived again even though we never used birth control after he was born!

My daughter had multiple miscarriages and was tested for a blood clotting issue. She did have it and had to give herself shots of heparin during the pregnancy. She had another little girl after going through the process. Have her ask the doctor because this is very common, it turns out. I had never heard of it but many people came out and told me of people they new that did it.

Once it gets to multiple miscarriages genetic counseling should happen, both parents and child should have their chromosomes checked to see if there is any type of genetic irregularities that could be contributing. It would have been best if both miscarriages had also been tested looking for genetic problems. If her doctor has not suggested genetic counseling at this point he should. It is a very simple procedure to do, it takes a little time to get the results but it could be the answer they need.

How far along was she? Two times since Jan... doesn't even seem like you would know you were pregnant with the second one yet. Miscarrying at 4 weeks can mean something different than miscarrying at 10 or 20 weeks.

Anyway, as some suggested, she should talk to an OB or a fertility expert. Many people who have multiple miscarriages do have the Antiphospholipid syndrome that causes miscarriages. It's worth reading and asking about.

Age is another factor.

My Daughter-in-law had 4 miscarriages in 6 years, before successfully carrying and delivering this little guy:

He's 3 months old in this picture, and we are SO BLESSED to have him! Tell your DIL to keep trying, as long as her OB doctor says it's o.k.

No matter what the doctor says, give it a rest. Don't try to get pregnant... but don't take the pill either. Let the body heal.

Then, in a year or so, she will have a better chance.

I agree with Moni. Even if she only waits 4-6 months, she will have a better chance. After mine, I was told to wait at least 3 months before trying again. My heart goes out to her. After 23 years, once in a while it will still hurt a little to see someone pregnant or to see a little one. And no, at almost 53, I don't want another one!LOL!

I would hope since she has been going the fertility clinic way that they are making sure she has regular mammograms.

I had 2 miscarriages close together before having my 3 kids. That was 38 years ago. I think the problem was I got pregnant too fast after going off the pill, and I did not know you had to wait awhile after going off the pill back then. Not true today as today the pill has fewer/less strong hormones than back then.

Not sure what mammograms has to do with miscarriages??

There's some speculation that fertility treatments lead to higher breast cancer risk due to the increased hormones. I think the science is too new to have definite proof either way but it can't hurt to be extra vigilant when dealing with hormones.

It's been in the headlines lately because Giuliana Rancic has been talking about how her breast cancer was found early at age 36 because her fertility doctor insisted on a mammogram to check for breast cancer before doing IVF because the hormones would accelerate the cancer if she had it.

yes that is exactly why I mentioned it since the fertility treatments were mentioned. It is definitely a good idea to have early and regular mammograms when undergoing any of the fertility treatments.

Giuliana had undergone a couple of rounds of IVF and was considering her third when the breast cancer was found. So better safe than sorry.

My daughter is not having IVF treatments.

As cruel as it may seem, in some cases, miscarriages can be a blessing in disquise. If there is something wrong with the fetus, nature's way is to eject it. Other cases are another matter.

I agree with the posters above, confer with an OBGYN before trying for the next one. Ask about male-female reaction. Some mother's systems react to the presence of a male fetus.

Side note: Each egg can develop into either male or female fetus. It's the sperm that determines the sex of a fetus. In other words, its the daddy who determines a baby's sex. I am reminded of this everytime I read that somewhere in the world a woman is blamed and mistreated because she 'fails' to bear a son - How foolish and ignorant. This makes me mad and sad at the same time.

Jemdandy, my mother miscarried a few babies but had 4 children. Her doctor told her just what you are sayiing. Miscarriages are nature's way of being sure the baby that does develop can survive.
