Desperately Need Help with Painting Cove

User

The ceilings of my LR and DR have the original (1920s) cove moldings as well as beams.

I'm in a quandary about the best way to paint the ceiling. The LR walls will be a goldish beige (BM Goldtone) and the DR walls, a muted apricot (F&B Devon Cream). The doors, trims, etc. will be white (BM Simply White).

Were there not beams, I could paint the cove the same color as the walls and only paint the inset panel of the ceiling white but because there are beams, they too would need to be the wall color and hence, I'd have a striped effect.

I could shoot a line at the bottom of the cove but my ceiling is not a uniform height and the line could accentuate the aberrant ceiling.

I think that painting the walls and the ceiling the same color would not be a good look.

And it is too late to put in a picture rail.

What should I do????
