I love your room, usually that would be too much wood for my taste but your room has a very warm and inviting feel to it. We too have honey oak cabinets and I've found that the citrus greens seem to work really well with them, much better in my opinion than the sages which tend to look a bit too gray or drab (sorry I know it's a popular color) and the olives which depending on the space can look too heavy. If you're looking for a warm and cheerful green, you may want to consider something with a tad more yellow in it so it will compliment the woodwork more. Some examples would be colors like: Behr Asparagus , Behr Grass Cloth: It's much prettier in person and I've used quite a bit in our own home (pictured below). or BM Perinnial- Another nice green is the color Aunt Jen just used in her living space, Agave, I believe it's Benjamen Moore. I've posted this pic a lot so sorry if you've seen it already, hope it helps. I wish I had a sample of the Grass cloth next to the oak, but we're in the middle of getting a back splash put in and the kitchen isn't painted...yet. Also, since your room is larger, you may want to consider a green that's a shade lighter like SW Rice Paddy also a great color.

I agree with seeing about lowering the table or getting longer legs to make the chairs taller. The table would seem to be the easiest, but if the chairs are really low it might be better to raise them so the table doesn't become too short for new chairs down the road. I'm not a rust person -- oranges, yellows and yellowy greens just aren't in my indoor palette unless we are talking lemons, limes, etc. So I saw things going in a different direction --- recover the chairs (or replace) with a deeper version of the DR wall accent color -- looks like that would be a gorgeous peacock or deep jewel teal. I'd look a warmer grey for the FR and kitchen if it will work with that backsplash -- something in the accessible beige, agreeable grey, perfect greige category -- they work well with grey and the dark wood/white trim. I got interrupted by a couple of phone calls -- I don't remember if there was something else right now, but that starts a different direction for you to consider. And I would also adjust the FR layout --- pulling the sofas to center seems like the place to start.

Hello friends. I am afraid I need your help once again! We have finally settled on a new sofa, accent chairs and the place we are getting all of this from has agreed to also throw in a rug for us if I happen to like one from their suppliers. I fell in love with a rug they have as well as accent pillows I think will match well. We have also decided on the color of the accent chairs and the model of the sofa. My issue : I CANNOT decide on a sofa color!!! Everyone is telling me to do light grey but I am afraid it won't go with the rug I like. I am swayed towards a white sofa (it is more off white, I will post a picture of the swatch bellow) in order to flow with my chairs and everything else. I had spoken to the designer who did our plan and she said I can go with a white sofa no problem. Everyone is saying do light grey. I know I can pick another rug but I am SO In love with the one I have chosen and I think it will make the space... Can anyone advise me on what to do? I do like a light grey sofa but I also really like the colors in the rug...We have to order this week in order to make it in time for Christmas and I am very undecided. You have all been so helpful and if you aren't utterly sick of me, I would appreciate the advice! Thanks groveraxle for the room layouts. If you look at 1 and 2, you will see a nice walkway from front to kitchen without having to walk through the conversation area. I like that. What I don't like is the inability to watch tv sitting perpendicular to the tv and fireplace. This is a tricky room since the wall is offset from the fireplace/tv. Have you thought of having 4 swivel chairs around a round center coffee table centered on the fire place? It is a cozy sitting arrangement and chairs can be pivoted toward the tv when watching tv. This really won't work for the two closes to the fireplace/tv because of the awkward up angle but it will work for the other two. The other option .. have you thought of two low backed curved couches? One on each side of the fireplace? It would create a cozy seating area and still put seating facing the TV. I couldn't find a curved couch quickly but here is the idea but using a sectional. Obviously this wouldn't work because the size is too big and the lounge pieces but the idea is there if you can see it. The walkway remains free. You get a cozy seating area for both TV and fireplace and you don't have to find complementary pieces if you feel better having matching pieces.
