Making your own window treatments?

How many of you have done this? I am considering sewing some linen look drapes for my kitchen sliding patio door. I don't think I am advanced enough to do pinch pleats. I need a longer length than the standard 84" but not a full 95" or 96" which is the next longest length available without going custom. I will be using those ring clips to hold up the panels. I will be lining them and using some kind of interface to stiffen the top 4-6 inches. Should I make create one large panel that will just go to one side or do two panels that I could open in the middle or to one side? I seldom use the door as an exit as I have a regular door that leads from the laundry room to the covered patio. I most likely will be leaving the vertical blinds up in this rental house so I won't have to store them or rehang them. The wall will be painted EK Taupe. The drapes will be a soft white or very light taupe to keep the wall neutral.

Any WT advice?

Thanks.
