Solutions For Keeping Multiple Courses Of Plates Warm?
Comments (6)When I started talking to DH about a WD, he asked the Alto Sham rep at work about their drawers. They do have a commercial looking drawer that can be ordered as one or a two or even three drawer stack. They're meant to sit undercounter or above, but not really in cabinetry like a residential drawer. Then he found this one. The chef there loves this bigger unit I linked below. Said he uses it all the time during dinner parries. Have you been to Bargreen Ellingson in Portland? They probably have one of these around to see IRL. Here is a link that might be useful: Alto sham oven...See MoreRomantic dinner recipes, food ideas
Comments (54)I have to agree on the fondue posts. Takes a while to do, can do by soft lighting (if you're careful). Start with a luscious cheese fondue and a crisp wine, followed by a meat and veggie orgie, and follow up with sinful strawberries dipped in warm chocolate with kirsch. Then, put in the movie "Chocolat" and you're all set! Don't forget the tawny port with the chocolate course....See MoreFast healthy real food dinner ideas
Comments (30)Also meant to mention (and you can google this) - why did Russia ban microwave ovens. So I did and here is what I found. There was no law that banned microwave ovens in the old Soviet Union, William Kopp made this up for his article many years ago. Several debunkers have trawled the USSR legal code without success trying to find the law - or the law that repealed it during perestroika. One argument goes that if even the Soviets banned microwave ovens, and we all know how evil the Soviets were, then surely microwave ovens must be bad. It is in the same boat as the allegation that the Nazis invented microwave ovens. They didn't (if they had cavity magnetrons available, they would have done what the British did and built accurate high frequency radar sets). Evil inventors developing something that even the evil Soviet empire had to ban, how effective that is as anti microwave oven propaganda. The question is valid given the sheer bulk of comment on the internet, but the simple truth is that microwave ovens were not banned in the old USSR. Urban Myth. No evidence whatsoever to support it....See MoreTips for Serving HOT Thanksgiving Dinner
Comments (12)bulldinkie, If I lived in a cooler climate, I'd be right there with ya'. As it is, I am near kellyeng and have virtually given up on expecting to serve hot dishes on Thanksgiving. My warming drawer doesn't hold enough to be that effective for the quantities I make. Lacanches have those nice warming cupboards, but I am not enamored of the rest of their performance characteristics. I relented and bought another crockpot this month, after one went to DS1, one went to DS2, and one became a small engine parts receptacle for DH's model airplane engine cleaning projects many years ago. DS1's girlfriend is bringing a loaner, too, so I will have two. I do plan to use the "hold" function on my wall oven, and my two Salton warming trays that are now, ahem, 30 years old. We shall see if they hang in for another year. What doesn't manage to stay hot just won't be hot. I had hoped the lowest setting on my induction hob could be pressed into service, but it is not low enough....See Morehawk307
