My husband picked it up for me at a yard sale, but I don't know what it is!!!

Actually, it sounds like Toto's customer service was quite helpful when you called, they gave you two specific product names! Bon Ami and Soft Scrub are both extremely mild abrasives (about as abrasive as toothpaste) that won't dull the porcelain enamel surface. By "abrasive cleaners" they are referring to products like Comet or Ajax, which will scratch the living daylights out of that nice smooth porcelain finish. This dulls the surface and the microscopic scratches collect dirt, which leads to a dingy appearance. For routine bathroom cleaning I usually use Oxyclean, which is plenty sufficient for the whole room. The Mr. Clean Magic Erasers also work as well as Bon Ami (wonderful stuff, and very earth friendly) or Soft Scrub (Ecover makes a great nontoxic version) when there's soap scum build-up or a bathtub ring that needs dealing with. Plain old baking soda also makes an excellent extra-mild abrasive that doesn't scratch - make a paste with a little water and apply with a sponge.

The white color has been discontinued replaced with Dune. The lighter enamel interior is actually a sand color. The black enamel is better for high temp cooking so it's used on their frypans, grill pans and woks. It's better for that purpose. It's definitely not inferior, just better suited for the job. The only line that has the black enamel on all the pieces in the black matte or satin black. The advantage is the black will season with use, and doesn't show staining as the sand enamel will over time.

You can cut off and cap the copper pipes coming out of the floor, but I'd first try to figure out where they are coming from. You don't someone turning a shutoff in the basement or crawl space (I wonder what this does?) and finding out it controls the water line running to this pipe. Smaller sizes of cast iron pipe usually have threaded fittings, while large waste pipes may use oakum and lead for the seal. Old cast iron pipes are usually fine for vertical runs (vent stacks, etc.), but horizontal iron pipe runs trap moisture and form rust in the bottom (looks like stalagmites). This rust catches on whatever is draining through the pipe (hair, soap, etc.) and creates a blockage over time. A plumbers snake becomes your friend. The rubber fittings are usually called Fernco couplings, since its the most common manufacturer of this type of coupler. They are used to connect dissimilar pipes during renovation (iron pipe to PVC, etc.), or to reconnect a pipe that has been cut. This is my 4 year old 30” Platinum which needs to be cleaned. DH stir fryed in the wok on the front left burner tonight and last night he seared 2 steaks. Usually we do the steaks outside on the grill but we had heavy rain and wind. We cook every day and aren't too concerned with keeping it spotless. I'm sure you can see the grease spots and crumbs which will clean up easily. I'll probably take the grates off tomorrow and wash them in the sink with Dawn. I don't think the cast iron has developed unsightly discoloration. There are some scratches on the stainless front which happened recently. I tried to move a hot, heavy cast iron skillet and could only use one hand - the other hand was sprained and I ended up setting the skillet on the front bib. We also have a 6month old 30" RNB at our vacation home on an island. I'll post a photo but that one doesn't get the heavy use that this one does. Having trouble posting photos - I'll try again.

an aebleskeever pan goes over a burner....that looks like a gem pan to me....small muffins were called "gems".

I think I found it!!!! This one has different markings on the back, but the front looks the same. I found it during a google search for gem pan.

Aw, thanks!!! He was thinking of me, he saw cast iron and bought it :) I've had my Analon Advanced for 10 years or so, but have recently (within 2 or 3 years) dug out my Gma's cast iron skillets, and have slowly picked up a few here and there. Without proper seasoning, they are not fun, but I had one properly seasoned. My turning point was my CI pizza pan. I'll never order pizza again!!! Now I've got most of my CI properly seasoned, I think I'll sell my Analon Advanced in a yard sale :) As for the gem, I think I'll keep him :) Thanks everyone!!! Christy
