Need help with understanding computer-eez

I tried to send an email to an old friend my Son found on facebook, and he said he would like to hear from me and gave Scott his email addy. I sent an email to him yesterday and I got a notice this morning that said....Message delivery to__________ delayed SMTP module.

Any one knows what the heck that means?

I tried looking it up but it makes no sense to me.

Here is a link that might be useful: delayed SMTP module.

It means that the mail server for your friend is delaying your message from being sent. This can happen for many reasons, but it's all on their email provider's side -- nothing you can do, other than wait to see if it goes through.

Are you 100% certain that you have the correct email address?

The Toshiba A135 received a Very Good rating from cnet. Cnet doesn't give very many $1000 affordable laptops that high of a rating. I recently bought the A135 2877, I believe is the model, the one with 2 gs of mem. (would recommend 2 gigs minimum for vista, from what I hear. It has a 180g hard drive, actually two seperate hard drives, a 100g plus an 80g. Great for backing up your system. With this much memory and hd space, you could collect a sizeable video and audio library (were talking hundreds of songs and movies). It runs Vista flawlessly. Yes, there are faster systems out there. I would have loved one with the Nvidia graphics card, which would give you a whopping 512m of shared graphics memory. The Intel that comes with the A135 has 256megs, acceptable. For about $1100 at costco online, I thinks it's one of the best deals out there. It was about $300 more than I wanted to spend on a laptop, but I'm just thinking where technology is going today, with streaming video, tv and music becomming more and more prevailant, before too long, anything less that 2 gigs of memory and a harddrive less than 100 gigs will probably be obsolete in the next couple years. I think this will be sufficient for our needs for some years to come. -- john

Ok I see you started 2 different posts here, one says you installed AVG free and one says you installed AVG antispyware free. Did you install AVG antivirus?? or just antispyware?? If you installed antivirus you most definitely can NOT have 2 antivirus programs running on your pc at the same time. You would first have to completely remove the antivirus program that is on the pc BEFORE you install and run another antivirus program. Do you have the AOL antivirus package perhaps? With antispyware programs normally you can have more than one they work differently so they can be used as layered protection thereby allowing more than one to run at the same time. Do you have plenty of memory (RAM) on your computer? when you get low on RAM it will tend to make things freeze up and run poorly. If you did install AVG antivirus and already had an antivirus program on your pc I would uninstall both of them completely, then go right to the AVG site and re- download and install the AVG antivirus to make sure you got it complete and properly installed. fill us in on exactly what you did and what you got so we know how to further direct you. And lets try to do this on this one post and not use the other one.

Need help quickly re roxio CD to backup computer

Loralee, regardless of the software you will eventually settle on, you will need to use multiple DVD's unless you opt for an external hard drive. I suggest that you take an afternoon and use a disk burning application (I can't stand Roxio, more on this later) to back up the files and folders of your choosing. If your DVD writer is capable, use double layered DVD-R's as they are 8.5 GB each. Then, get in the habit of backing up new files to dvd on a regular basis. A real simple solution would be to buy an external USB or Firewire hard drive and copy over your precious files, though I would still make DVD's and put them away. Most, if not all, external drives come with some sort of "back-up" software. As Ravencajun suggests, Trueimage is pretty good. I do not recommend anything by Roxio as their software has proven to conflict with hardware drivers and also creates problems when installed with other software. It doesn't play well with other software. I have made many repairs to friends and family computers that Roxio has caused. There are many other cd/dvd burning software solutions available, I am partial to Nero. I also suggest Total Commander as a file manager. It far exceeds the capability of Windows Explorer and once you use it, you'll never look back. If you get an external hard drive and use total commander, you'll be done in no time at all. Good luck.

Jeepers, why all the Apple dislike? I have to admit that I used PCs at work and was pretty good with them, back in the old DOS days. Then I quit my job and went to grad school, which had the old original Apple computers. Oh, the joy of using a mouse! The user interface with icons, instead of having to remember each and every little DOS command. I became an Apple convert then and there and have never looked back. I work on a PC (literally, I only use one at work), and play on my iMac. And I went out the very first day the very first iPod went on sale and bought one. They were tucked away in the back of the Apple store, around a corner. The sales person I asked didn't even know where they were and had to ask someone else for help. How things have changed in that regard. lyban, if you get an iPod and have any questions about iTunes or anything, I'll be glad to try and help.

No, not 100% but it is the one my son emailed to me. Guess I'll just wait and see if it goes through, otherwise, when my son talks to him via facebook, I'll have him give Derrik my email addy. Thanks for the input.

More than likely the email address is incorrect. That typically means that the .com is .net or the other way around. Have your son forward the address again and check it.

Have your son give him your email addy and you can get his from that. When I give someone my email I make sure they see the 1 as a one not an L. They look similar in small letters 1..l

It's also possible there's a spam filter involved that has blacklisted your mailhost.

This is a case where a cc or bcc would work well. Have Scott do an email to both you and the friend; you'll have the address to copy & paste and try again. You can also do a test email to the friend, cc/bcc it to Scott and see how it goes.

It could be it's just delayed and will go through later.

But... don't you have some packing to do my dear??? ;)

Not knowing where the recipient's mail server is (where he works or at his Internet Service Provider, etc.), makes it slightly more difficult to pin down the answer, but right now I'd say that you don't have to be concerned about not having the correct e-mail address.

Where I work, we have Exchange mail servers. There have been times that, for one reason or another, we close the incoming/outgoing gateway to the network. Mail within the agency is still sent/received, but mail into or out of the agency is held in queue while whatever needs to be done is being done. When the maintenance/repair is completed, the gateway is opened and all of the messages that were held are now allowed out/in.
