'Computer Dummy' Needs Help!!

Hi all...I've got a problem. I downloaded AVG Free edition, and now, my computer keeps freezing and will show,

Message >> AOL Not Responding.

Why is this happening...and is there any fix? Should I just uninstall AVG? If so... Than what? Please make it VERY EASY for me to understand..Thanks

Before you installed AVG what anti virus were you running? Did you disable the other A/V because 2 should not be running at the same time.

Perhaps loading AVG was the final straw in a series of events that has caused the computer to start freezing. How long since you ran a disk clean up and defragged the hard drive? Do you use AOL?

Ok I see you started 2 different posts here, one says you installed AVG free and one says you installed AVG antispyware free. Did you install AVG antivirus?? or just antispyware??

If you installed antivirus you most definitely can NOT have 2 antivirus programs running on your pc at the same time. You would first have to completely remove the antivirus program that is on the pc BEFORE you install and run another antivirus program. Do you have the AOL antivirus package perhaps?

With antispyware programs normally you can have more than one they work differently so they can be used as layered protection thereby allowing more than one to run at the same time.

Do you have plenty of memory (RAM) on your computer? when you get low on RAM it will tend to make things freeze up and run poorly.

If you did install AVG antivirus and already had an antivirus program on your pc I would uninstall both of them completely, then go right to the AVG site and re- download and install the AVG antivirus to make sure you got it complete and properly installed.

fill us in on exactly what you did and what you got so we know how to further direct you. And lets try to do this on this one post and not use the other one.

It seems as though that the carb will need to be cleaned. You may luck out and only need to drop the bowl, clean that area, take the straw from a jet spray carb cleaner and work it up into the very center of the stem and spray. Of course, it is good to know that the fuel getting to the carb is clean and fresh. Should further cleaning be required, they can be a bit tricky to remove, clean and reassemble if you are questioning your mechanical ability. If you go further, watch closely how gaskets and links come off. There is a small jet that unscrews in that center stem and a tube that you shake/ push out to clean. Or new carbs are really quite affordable as well.

if you want help from us then and then won't do what tasks are asked then there is no way we can help you. WE could send you to one of the support forums specific for clean up but you must run the scans and tasks that are asked for us to see what is on the machine if we don't know then there is no way to help clean it. If zep is asking you to run something you can rest assured it is NOT something to hurt you it is to see what you have lurking on the pc. There is a difference between antivirus programs and all the other things you mentioned. You can only have one Antivirus program running at a time you have MSE that is fine. You can have several other anti malware programs on the pc because they do not run till you start them up and run a scan you only do one at a time. Malwarebytes is great be sure you update it prior to running the full scan weekly, another is superantispyware also update prior to running full scan. The other thing you should have is spywareblaster you just open it weekly and hit the update button then hit enable all protection so the shield turns green that is it it sits there and does it's thing. I would also suggest putting WOT on your browsers so you are warned if a site has a bad reputation or is dangerous. Use this tool regularly to check for updates to other things on your pc , the majority of infections today are happening because of not updating your flash, java, adobe etc programs they must be updated and so must windows so do all those updates. Secunia Online Software Inspector (OSI) run online virus scans occasionally to see if they find something your MSE missed ESETÃ¯Â¿Â½s Free Online Scanner You want to quarantine because if it happens to be something that was needed then you can go back and get it, when they are in quarantine you need not worry about them just leave them alone. Dot, if you are using internet explorer, look up at the top where the address bar is and see where it shows a leaf before the Kitchen table's address? Now, up in the top right corner, click on the little square that's between the "x" close button and the "-" button. that will make your internet screen smaller and you should be able to see your desktop behind your internet screen now. Now, click on the little leaf or whatever picture is in front of the web address that you want on your desktop, hold it down when you click on it and drag it out onto your desktop. Voila. There you go!

Clematis dummie here. Need help choosing

It looks like the shade is fairly bright so you should be able to grow things that like part shade. You could also consider planting both climbing roses and clematis to increase the length of your bloom time; they grow well together. A rose such as Zephirine Drouhin has grown fine for me, though some cold years it has to start over from ground level. It is part shade tolerant, scented, and relatively thornless with pink blooms in spring and some repeat over the summer and into fall. One or more of the type 3 summer blooming clematis might be a nice combination and give you a long season of bloom. You could fasten the rose canes up the columns along with perhaps some wires, and then the clematis would climb the rose canes and wires combined. the clematis won't climb just the posts since they need something that's less than half an inch diameter to wrap the leaf petioles around. The type 3 (hard prune) clematis are the easiest care IME. Here's a link to the previous discussion where you got suggestions from other members so perhaps you have to do less repeating here. Do you have a color preference? White, lavender, purple and reddish with a slightly blue cast are all common colors, and I think any would look nice with the pink of ZD rose or with each other. Are you planning to plant in the soil just off the edge of the decking and do you only want them growing up the posts, or do you plan to add other trellising materials to make more of a wall? Since you hoping to have them grow up to the roof line of the pergola, about how high is it from the ground? Many but not all of the type 3 clematis will be tall growing, but I am not sure how well they will grow right under the edge of the roof mentioned in your previous post due to the increased shade. Perhaps you can loop wires a foot or 2 down so the clematis can grow across them. One few large clematis that I like that can reach at least 10' unless otherwise noted: Betty Corning (lavender bells with a very light scent for some folks) Venosa Violacea - deep purple with white centers Viola - deep purple John Huxtable - White Princess Diana - bright pink bells and a bit less than 10' Gravetye Beauty - Deep red bells Little Bas - Medium blue-purple with white centers

There have been past reports on the Forum of users maintaining two AVs. Historically, one is active and the alternate is on demand.

There have also been reports of conflicts on a system between two installed AVs regardless of configuaration.

Personally in the past I have had an episode where I tried to install a second AV and the installation failed. During the setup the second AV detected the existence of the first AV and it refused to install.

I guess in all case it is system oriented, application defined, and a user discreation issue.

Whenever a user changes AVs a complete unistall should be the protocol. This would include besides the common uninstall utility, a START>Search for orphan files, and a registry cleaning.
