I got mine, and was surprised at the minimal amount of information they asked for. I was prepared to tell them how many rolls of toilet paper I use in a week. :-)

i do think there are longer versions but only a select few recieve those...i'd love to do one...

Mine came today,Monday . Asks simple questions-name,sex,age,birthday, race of each person in the hpousehold. Filled out in about ten minutes and will mail it back Tuesday.

No, but I got a letter telling me I'd be getting a census. What a waste of money to send out that letter.

Well, ours came in today's mail. The first person in the home has to answer 10 question. The second person answers 7 and so do the people up to and including person number 6. The rest of the people don't have much at all to fill out if there are any. Not much to it from the looks of it.

Got ours today, too. Have to really sit down and figure out how to answer it, since we have 2 homes at the moment. We live in one currently, but are hoping to move to the other within the next month or 2--I'd really want my information being recorded for the 'new' place, since that's where we'll be needing services, etc, but it's not yet our legal residence.

Mine arrived today. I think it took about 3 minutes to fill it out including reading it over. Maybe 3-1/2 with putting it back in the envelope. Name, age, phone, do you own the house, and how many people live here. Good grief, what are people so paranoid about? Here's something you can be scared of: By licking the envelope, you'll send your DNA in. So if you think the gu'mint is out to get you, wear gloves and tape or glue the envelope shut, and don't sneeze near it. :)

I'm with cynic...it's no big deal, why all the paranoia? I've heard so many people complain and freak out over this thing.

I got mine today. I was surprised how little there was to it. I wonder what they do with the info about what type of housing you have - and whether your mortgage is paid off or not. It reminded me of the census records you can look at on ancestry.com. I found those really interesting - today's census not so much.

Ours was hand delivered about 10 days ago, filled it out and mailed it back the same day.

All the census forms are the same this time, there is no long and short versions.

And why do I have to be white? Why can't I be beige or have a fancy name like other groups? Why isn't my race listed? What if I'm Aboriginal or Mongolian?

Why not just ask country of origin and most importantly are you a US citizen or legal resident?

Question #8 asks another "ethnic" question. One of the options to check is Yes,another Hispanic,Latino or Spanish origin. Then they ask you to print origin below that giving Spaniard as on example. ACK.

I understand that it asks age as of April 1, but why the birthDATE too?

Maybe they are anticipating my being hit by a bus before my late March birthdate. (Newspaper story: Woman hit by bus uses her last breath to gasp, "Amend...my...census form...")

Everything seems to be as of April 1 this year shouldn't we wait until then to mail them back?

I got mine today too and question the April 1,2010 date! Yep..this is where I live now on MARCH 16, 2010 but who knows if I'll even be LIVING on April 1st? LMAO

I got mine on Monday and filled it out. There was not many questions. Its not going to be much use to future genealogists. All that was asked was how many people lived in the domicile, their sex, names, race, age and birthdate. Questions not asked were location of birth places and occupations.

I was surprised that it asked for both birth dates and age. It wanted to know a person's age on April 1, 2010. In that way, it avoided ambiguity of the past where a person's age might change depending on when the survey was answered. A 100 years ago when a sherrif's deputy came around on horseback, most of the enumeration was done during the warmer months of April through September, your age could vary by one year if you had a summer birthday.

I don't know the reason for collecting both the age and birthdate unless this was a check. Surely in this day of software and computers, a computer could figure out the age if you plugged the birth date.

I noticed that each spouse had a choice of 2 sexes to choose from. Thus, possible combinations could have been, Male + Female; Female + Male; Male + Male; or Female + Female.

I can't believe anyone could be offended or bothered by the census! Just give it up, for pete's sake. Or keep being afraid, very afraid, if that's what you like. The census is important, brief, and takes about three minutes to fill out.
