Annie's thread on "Boned/stuffed/rolled turkey" reminds me of something I have done, but have not yet posted here.

I saw Jacques Pepin and Julia Childs boning the whole chicken on TV. That was interesting. I decided to carry it one level higher, boning the whole chicken inside out without opening the chicken up.

Yes, it can be done. The chicken was completely, I mean completely cleanly boned, including all leg bones, wing bones, drum stick bones. The only bones remained were the soft wing tip pointy bones (phalange bones). All the bones were removed just from the two small openings that came with the chicken, the neck hole and the rear hole.

It looked and felt funny like a rubber chicken. LOL!!!

I did it because I planned to do a different version of truducken at some point, or to come up with some interesting recipes for stuffed chicken. A turkey probably would be easier because it is bigger.

Nice bones to make enough gravy.

People here still use lots of poinsettas, & Christmas cactus is a classic, but it seems like the new fad is amaryllis. I think there's a cyclical nature to holiday decoration- when I was a little girl (I don't think artificial Christmas trees had even been invented), we always had a fresh-cut tree, decorated with precious & beloved ornaments, strings of bubbler lights & big multi-colored bulbs, & the old icicles, made with lead, that really sparkled. Then my parents bought an aluminum tree, a color wheel, & boxes of round, bright blue ornaments. Then the aluminum trees were embarrassingly passe, & real-looking artificial trees were in vogue, with themes: Victorian, birds, Santa's workshop, etc. same with outside decorating & lighting: For the past probably 10 years, I've been seeing outdoor figures, both in plywood & blow-up plastic (one house had a whole toy train, every car was a separate bubble), & white icicle lights on almost every house, but this year I see more old-fashioned styles. The 2 best-decorated houses I've seen this year used an old-fashioned less-is-more technique: one ranch-style brick house in my area has a big Christmas tree in the living room, decorated with multi-colored lights. & that's all. & in a neighboring town, I saw a 2 story Prairie style house with a garland around the door, short garlands with red bows on either side of the steps, & strings of small multi-colored lights along the 1st story eaves. beautiful.

I get several dozen different tools every year. I assume people place them on top of a bag or pile of trimmings and forget about them. I've probably given about 25 or so away. The chicken just looks cute, he usually rides around on the golf cart with me. I also get bunches of the artificial flowers as well, they get stuck on whatever piece of machinery I can stick them on. The trailer has some on the front corners, people laugh at them, makes me smile, no harm done. Lloyd

My neighbors' grandson came dressed as a chef, all in white with flour on his face and big chef's hat. Adorable! My favorite trick or treater was the kid about one year old, dressed as a pumpkin with a little stem hat. So cute! He looked a little dazed by the whole event though! If you've never exerienced a whole night of strange adults throwing candy at you, I imagine it is a little overwhelming!

I made my weekly trip to Goodwill. They had a sale - sweaters $2, pants $1. I wish I could have shopped for pants but I had Dan with me. I did find two Talbot cotton ribbed cardigans, one in black and one in blue. My theory is that one can never have too many black cardigans or cardigans in any color really. I like to layer. That was it. Oh, I bought Dan a 47 cent monkey to keep him happy while I shopped. So I spent $4.50. Total spent this weekend between yard sales and Goodwill - under $15.

I've seen a lot of roast chickens here but that one is by far the best!

dcarch, that third picture looks like a chicken hoping to be a crab, LOL!

You are far more patient than I am, I was pretty much over the experience about 5 minutes into the turkey boning, LOL.
Although it wasn't difficult and took only about 15 minutes it's far too "picky" for my taste. It's not something I'd do on any regular basis and I sure wouldn't try to do it while leaving the bird intact, I'm far too impatient.

It's a nice looking bird, though. What does it look like after slicing? Or do you carve it like a traditional roast bird and remove the stuffing for serving?

You remember I just posted a thread about Jacques Pepin's steamed turkey, and also here I am on a thread about Pepin's method of boning a chicken.

Guess what, I was visiting a friend an hour ago on the train, there he was, Jacques Pepin in person!

He looked strange, so I asked him, "Is everything all right Mr. Pepin?"

"Yes, I am OK. I need to get off this train now; I am going in the wrong direction."

He got off the next station. I could have shown him this post on my Blackberry if he had stayed on the train.

Life's events sometimes can be very inexplicable.

Teresa, my roasted chicken possibly can be delivered to Tricia. You see, Jacques Pepin lives in Madison Connecticut, not that far from Tricia.
