Yard sales today

We are taking a break after only 2 yard sales today. There weren't many advertised so we might actually just call it a day.

The first sale has been going on all summer but they seem to rotate their stock pretty well. I got a couple of small cookbooks, 2 plush animals (I had Nick with me today), a small rubber chicken (like a rubber duckie), 3 new toothbrushes (of course new LOL), 2 big Halloween cookie cutters (still in the package). That was all $4.20.

The second sale was a 2 weekend sale. I went last weekend and got a few things so I went back to see if they had anything new. We got a big plush Pluto (a nice one, from Disney World - but again, I had Nick with me or that wouldn't have come home with us!), a small football, a small paperback Sesame Street book and a big plastic Philadelphia Eagles football locker (big enough for the boys to fit it, one at a time) all for $5 (she had marked just the locker $5). That locker didn't really fit in my trunk but the husband very helpfully got some rope and we anchored it in there as best we could. We had to go home at that point.

I considered not going out at all today but Nick wanted to go. He's missed the past few weeks since he's been scouting and then hunting but he wasn't going to go out hunting until the afternoon today. Just between you and me, I think he prefers yard sales to sitting in the woods. His dad just called and said he got a deer and when I told Nick that meant he probably wouldn't get to go hunting this afternoon he just said 'okay' and never blinked an eye.

You got some pretty cool stuff!! My DH would be ga-ga over that lantern, for sure! Great idea for the cast iron pot too! It's enough to get a person addicted, isn't it? My DH is starting to get the hang of it now, as well. Sometimes he gives me that "you're crazy, woman" look until I show him pictures of what people have made. THEN, he's right in there with me. I love seeing other people's finds!

Sandi, this turned out to be a pretty good craft book. Lots of fairly easy to do ornaments and things. Some things I had seen before, but some were new to me. Maybe I'll get around to doing some tablescapes again after vacation that I can use my dome lids in. Right now, one of them is over my faux cupcakes. Almost didn't buy the 2nd one, then figured I might wish I had. You know how that goes. LOL I'm almost afraid to tell Judith that I passed up a Carolyn Rohme (sp) book for $6.00. It was her floral one. It was huge and very colorful, but not really tablescapes, which I would have preferred. The original price on it new was $60.00! I thought about getting it in case someone on here wanted it--but the postage would probably cost more than the book, so I passed! Yachter, you have certainly collected lots of nice pieces to use in some tablescapes. Will look forward to seeing what you create for us (and yourself) this Fall. Hope you are starting to feel better now. Bet that yard sale therapy really helped too. ;o) Luvs

Wow, Bright! What a great deal. I love those ornaments with the stripes--those are so neat. Now you need to go over to the crafts forum and locate Oddie's ornament wreaths that she made last year. They were so pretty, and these would sure make a nice one. I feel the same way as Jane and Betty about the crochet ones--I so admire anyone who can make things like that, but so often family members are just so used to them that they don't realize the talent and time that has gone into making them. Oh, I almost forgot. One sale had a great round cake holder. It was plastic, lightweight and only 25 cents. It had a big spider web and a dead ugly spider in it. Yuck! Even for 25 cents I wouldn't buy it. I don't expect stuff to be perfectly clean at a yard sale but I think sellers should at least remove the spiders. I might have paid up to $2 without the spider. I bought the bike and glove at around 8:30am and tried to pay with a $20 bill and they didn't have change. It's not like I was paying for a 50 cent item - I only needed $4 change. They did scrape it up in the house. I always have plenty of small bills for change whenever I have a yard sale.

I did get a lot of great deals this year but I'm ready to sleep in on Saturdays! I don't even think it's rained one single Saturday morning this entire yard sale season. The Goodwill store will get me through the winter.

Nick will be 7 in January.

This is the locker. It's about 4 feet tall. I need to put his name and jersey number on it (where you see the black). The boys have been pretending it's a 'port-a-potty'.

The port-a-potty thing made me lol! They've got good imaginations.

I haven't been going to any sales, but there is a huge flea market/garage sale thing next weekend about 30 miles away with over a hundred vendors. Might go to that, but probably not. I will be going to the big church rummage sale next month. Hope to get some amazing bargains there. :-)

I made my weekly trip to Goodwill. They had a sale - sweaters $2, pants $1. I wish I could have shopped for pants but I had Dan with me. I did find two Talbot cotton ribbed cardigans, one in black and one in blue. My theory is that one can never have too many black cardigans or cardigans in any color really. I like to layer.

That was it. Oh, I bought Dan a 47 cent monkey to keep him happy while I shopped. So I spent $4.50. Total spent this weekend between yard sales and Goodwill - under $15.

Great deal for $5....wow!! I LOL'ed at the port-a-potty comment too.....boys will be boys!
