Thanks, Amy... but do you ever look at allposters.com or in Michaels? At allposters the choices are almost endless and the prices aren't bad. Plus you can try out different frames on things on your 'puter.

Thanks Amy! I don't think I even noticed hte framed art in the catalog I just received recently. But then again, DH tends to throw them out faster than I can look at them. It's a conspiracy.....

Oceanna, yes, I have looked at All Posters. And I searched through the bins at Michael's when I was doing my guest bath last month. I find AP a bit overwhelming. And M's is just depressing for me....must be the fluorescent lights. :-)

I have to say, I am one of those people who likes the limited selection of smaller paint brands. I'd rather choose from 125 colors than 1500. So too, I like it when a company like GH has sorted through the many thousands of posters out there and picked several dozen really good ones. Call me lazy?!

That reminds me - I found another great art source the other day - www.condenaststore.com. They're the big magazine publishers and they're selling vintage covers, illustrations, and photos from Vogue and other magazines. I adore old magazine illustrations and the art was right up my alley, but it was pricey as heck (a 12 x 15 print, unframed, was $180 - seems steep for something they're probably not paying royalties or anything on since it's their own darn covers!). Still, it's fun to window-shop!

Other great art sources can be Craigslist, or eBay, or your local arts and crafts fair, or Etsy.com. I'm getting tired of sending all my money overseas. I'd like it to stay here.

Lkplatow, I love those Conde Nast prints. My fantasy potting room/butlers pantry (I can dream, right?!) would have framed magazine covers on the walls. Some of the early H&G are among my faves. I love the idea of doing a little girl's room with early covers from Vogue. And the dog-related covers from The New Yorker warm my heart, too.

Oceanna, I agree about keeping our decorating dollars here in this country. Etsy is great and I think yard sales can be a fun source of "outsider" art! The only time my art dollars go overseas is when I do...love to bring back souvenirs for my walls.

As a former struggling jewelry designer, I try to buy from artists when I see things I like at art shows. They work so hard...I really admire their fortitude in coming out to do the shows.

I like how you think, Amy. I love patronizing local artists. Buying "used" feels good too... keeps the money going 'round locally and keeps stuff out of the landfills.

I also love making things myself when I can. I'm thinking I'm going to be painting some artwork for my house and for my son's house. Right now I'm working on a tray. It's aluminum (old) and I got tired of it leaving black marks on my sink. So I'm playing around with painting it and finding a way to seal it well. If it turns out fabulous I'll probably do some as gifts. If not, oh well. DIY can be the most fun, IME, and if I want to learn how to do something I usually can.

Yes, yard sales can be great too. It's amazing what you can find. I also check CL frequently for things I want. I made a "killing" there recently on a coffee table I refinished and gifted to my son. I just wish my daughter weren't so hard to buy for. But I'm thinking if I make her some original artwork she'll be pleased.

Right now I'm on the hunt for some frames -- but first I have to examine the ones I have and sell those I won't use.
