MissMaggie's right. It was Joan. She was one of the good ones that used to be on. HGTV isn't very good anymore.

HGTV has disappointed me, too. They need to just call it the Real Estate channel. I miss all the gardening shows.

That's funny. I never liked her. Too perky. I really enjoy House Hunters, HHunters Intl, Selling NY and LA. I like NY much more than LA.

When there's absolutely nothing else to watch on tv, which is most of the time, I can usually find something on HGTV.

They used to have a great lineup on HGTV now I hardly watch it Too many yuppies running the show and other used to be good channels

Joan Steffend was on a segment of our local public broadcasting channel's fund-raising programming this week. She still looks much the same.

I used to love HGTV but about 8 years ago it started to get to where the things they had on there were geared toward the super rich folks, they would do kitchen(and such) remodels that cost twice what my whole house costs. I wanted to see realistic things that gave me, the average person, decorating ideas.

I agree with fun2bhere. The show I remember Karen M on had them shopping at flea markets and garage sales for some of their items and the rest was found around the house. I liked Joans' shows too as they demonstrated how to do a lot of the projects in more detail than you get on most shows today. More of a learning experience.

Thanks so much, Fun2bhere, you win the pat on the back! I just thought of her first name a few hours ago, knew it was an Irish name, i.e. the MC. I recall Joan Steffend too, I liked her show, but she didn't use homeowners almost throw aways and repurpose like Karen did. I used to watch it real regular, but like all of you, rarely see a show I want to watch. I mostly keep track of Mike Holmes, he has his own foundation and had his crew in New Orleans building homes for Katrina survivors. Amazing man, so knowledgable, so caring, and gives back to his communities. Brad Pitt was involved with his project in New Orleans also. Since the economy hit the skids, our television programming has gone dowhill fast. Seems the networks don't want to pay for good shows. Why should they? we all have to pay to watch now. Good deal for all of them, not so much for the audiences, like us. I can't recall even one garden based show on right now. Thanks for the speedy replys, it drives you nuts until you get the answer.

Thanks for the shout out. I loved Karen's style and humor. I wish she still had a decorating show of some kind on television. Admittedly, I preferred Find Your Style more than Design Remix, but either one is better than the shows on HGTV-USA now.

I used to be glued to HGTV,but for the last several years it's been moving towards the rich folks.Who cares about those fancy homes that glitter with gold and are draped in all the bling that goes with it.

I liked joan steffend,matt & sherry,carol duvall,karen,.Now there's hardly anything on it worth watching.I also don't like that lady(Egypt) that took sandra rinomoto's place,or house hunters international.

TLC is the same way,remember lynette jennings and her little red truck,christopher lowell,and a few others whos names escape me now.

I hate all those shows about dressing someone,say yes to the dress,and the one that stops people on the street and re-dresses them.Sometimes those stars that are doing the fixing,don't look so hot either.

TV sure is not what it used to be.

What a coincidence. My DD and I spent the afternoon with my DGDIL. DGS had to work so we had a girls day out.

One of the things we talked about was the current TV shows. And one of those was HGTV. I stopped watching because after a while it seemed like I was seeing the same shows over and over, just with different characters. They both said they don't watch HGTV any more either.

More and more I resent what I am paying for the few programs that I do watch. Doesn't matter if I have xxx number of channels, when so many shows are worthless, and getting more and more trashy all the time.

Sadly, I don't have any hopes of it getting any better.

I agree that HGTV has gone down hill. I used to love Matt & Sherry. You could watch that show and others like Lynette, Carol Duvall and Joan Steffend, learn something and get some ideas. I rarely watch HGTV these days. I like to occasionally see something that has some relevence to real life.

Sue, there is another option. Antenna TV. The frugal part of me decided I didn't need cable, or dish type TV. At first, I missed watching some shows... but now, I relish the few I get, and I turn it off, if nothing worth watching is on. In the latter scenario I am so glad, I don't need to pay.

Only expense I had, was get a good antenna. :)

I used to be a big fan of HGTV. I too miss Carol Duvall, Matt and Sherry and others. I wish there were more crafting shows on. The only shows I watch now are House Hunters and House Hunters International. It's fun to see what housing is like in different parts of the country and world.
