Thanks for the input so far. A few other pieces of info. 1) I increased the amount of water (sometimes sequential days, sometimes longer duration) starting about 3 weeks ago when I first noticed the problem (thinking it was not ENOUGH water that was the problem - I'm sure that's a common response). 2) On the edges of the lawn where there is treated lumber edging I've been dowsing the lawn w/ a hose since that seemed to be more yellow a few weeks ago and/or I thought perhaps my Melnor fan sprinkler wasn't hitting the edges enough. Those edges seem very lush and green. 3) On some spots near the Yucca palm I have where I drove in palm food spikes, the lawn is also noticeably greener (circles 8"-12" right where the spikes went in). So I'll experiment a little w/ the watering volume & frequency (less of each, though maybe in a small patch I'll do more.) Will keep apprised.

1) Small screws 2) Look for a Liquid Nails type glue but designed for Metal/Plastic. 3) If none are fully off, try caulking around the edges. 4) Remove all together and patch holes? 5) Have the door replaced...a lot more $$$$$ but perhaps a lot less aggravation...

"Your post has me a tad confused. You say you have shades in mind but for what? Can you please expand on what you're thinking you'd like to do, then people can make suggestions from there. " I want to use a blue colour for my kitchen and den area. You can see the den area from pictures 5 and 6. The living and dining area are in pictures 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, and 7 and I want to paint those "rooms" green. What I was saying is I know what colours I want to use and am pretty sure of what shades, but I can't figure out where to start one colour and stop it. As you can see in picture six, one of the walls from the den area sort of wraps around to the dining area with a little alcove in between them. So, I'm not sure where I should stop my blue colour as it wraps around because of how that one wall is. So in picture 6 you see the den area and to the right a bit of the kitchen. I had originally wanted to do the kitchen walls in red, but because those walls also flow into the den area without a wall break to separate the rooms, I decided to just keep it all blue in the kitchen/den area. Colours are not the issue. Where to put them juxtaposed to each other, so as to keep the nice flow the house, is the issue. As you can see in photo one there's some really nice architecture and I'm trying to find a way to accentuate that. I was thinking of maybe doing the little alcove (photos 5-7) and the triangular area of the ceiling in photo one (the part with the fan attached to it) in maybe the same colour, but then thought otherwise. As far as where the blue and green should meet, I had one I idea of having them meet along the seam in the curve in the wall, as seen in photo seven, almost a line done the middle of the alcove. Again, not sure how that would turn out hehe. I have a bunch of crazy ideas floating in my head but as far as them being a reasonable reality I'm not so sure. Thoughts and comments much appreciated. I love the input and hope to see this room make a stunning transition. I need all the help I can get to make sure this room doesn't look like a circus gone wrong.

Mary, I LOVE that wardrobe!! It will be PERFECT to paint and distress. I am a big DIY-er, and just did this project this past weekend. I lost one of my beautiful Brittany Spaniels unexpectedly last Thursday, and decided that in Joey's honor, I'd do a tribute to him by copying a popular design that I have seen painted on bureaus - the British 'Union Jack' flag. I started out with an unpainted old pine piece. I suspect that yours might be pine, too. I used Annie Sloan chalk paint as the 'white' background on mine, and it's wonderful, but pricey. I painted my piece and then sanded the areas I wanted to appear worn by hand, with a piece of 150 grit sandpaper. If you want natural colored wood to show on some 'worn' areas of yours, you might want to experiment before you paint it black, by seeing if you can sand off some of the white paint that's there from a test area, such as an edge. If you have an electric sander, it'll make the job go easier. You don't need to sand the whole thing unless the current paint has a bit of a gloss finish to it. Try your black paint and see if it'll stick to the current paint. If it doesn't you may need to scuff up or prime the whole wardrobe to get your black paint to stick. Or, use chalk paint (not chalk board paint) as it really does stick well, goes a long way, and dries very fast. I put a link to Annie Sloan's site below. I also waxed mine with both Butcher's wax first and then with BriWax, which I had in light brown and dark brown, to add the aged effect. That really makes a difference, and changes the paint colors slightly.
