Tomorrow at 2:30 Central time is my Onocology appt

So I need a crowded room. DH will be there with me, I thought I'd be brave, but the closer the time gets, the more afraid I feel!!!

Hello to all. I'm taking a break from a short burst of energy outside. I went to the neighboring town with DH to deliver a tape to a school and on the way back it seemed to have warmed up substantially. I decided to tackle that bleeding heart/redbud in the front disaster bed. I dug down about a foot and pulled out the dirt - the bleeding heart came apart in 5 pieces since the redbud was smack in the middle of it. I then cut the tree off below ground and planted a piece of the redbud back in the same spot. I think if any new shoots come up off that root I'll cut them off right away and see if the root will die back. Spread the other pieces of the bleeding heart out around the yard, one where I seem to have lost my white one! There was another redbud tree growing there I had to dig up. It's still cool and the plant was not more than about 4 or 5 inches tall, so hopefully with the cool weather and rain in the next couple of days the pieces will all take and make nice new plants. BTW, Deanne, do you want a redbud? Now would be a good time for me to dig one up for you (small one) if you want it. I have them growing all over the place. Volunteers... LOL on the "Rambo Gardening". I try very hard not to do that any more, because it leads to suffering. I raked half the front yard of sweet gum balls (that translates to one very large trash bag full), picked up a large can full of sticks, cleaned out a peony/daylily bed, and the bed behind the deck which consists mainly of removing about an inch of pine needles each spring. That amounted to a bag and a half of pine needles. We won't talk about how many are on the deck to be cleaned up, but the trash men only take so much and I don't want to overextend their generosity. At any rate, I'm feeling muscles I forgot, of course. Not too bad but enough for Aleve...and a good hot shower. I'll go out later and do a bit more, perhaps. I think a trip to the 'mart for weed and feed is in order since rain will be coming tomorrow night. I could spread it in the morning. Bug, that sweater is adorable, your grandbaby is so lucky! What an heirloom to keep someday. My mother still has a little cotton dress of mine. I still have a lot of the boys' clothes, I really should get rid of most of them. After all, they are nearly adults! Deanne, your bird and flower pictures are always stunning. I love to look at them, you have a great eye. Last year I had a fuschia in a basket I kept alive all summer, first time ever. I considered bringing it in the house, and I guess I should have, or at least taken cuttings. My coleus are still in water in the window upstairs. OH, and the hoya you sent a couple of years ago is blooming...again! I guess it likes my window. My roses regularly die back nearly to the ground. I think they are doing better though. Age and better soil, and I plant the crowns deeper than I did at first so it gives them a better chance. And the right varieties help. I just had to realize that I have to grow what I can, not necessarily what I like, in the way of roses! What I'd really like is a gigantic climber that flowers all summer, that wouldn't lose leave to blackspot, that the Japanese beetles would hate, and that required very little care. I don't ask for much. I have two hellebores this year! One I've had for several years and it looked pretty bad up until about a week ago. Now it's sending up lots of new growth and has it's first bloom of the season. The other one I planted last year and it's taken, also. I have tried a couple of times to get a second one to grow and this is the first one that has succeeded. It looked pretty sad until about a week ago also. Kenzie and Bella are both adorable. Maybe someday there will be little grandbaby GIRLS around here. But not too soon! Cindy, the euphorbia still looks dead. Still waiting to see if there is an "opportunity" there. I have no prior experience with euphorbias and I was so pleased with this one and the plants I put around it, it made a nice grouping. I'll still wait a bit. Chelone, sounds like a doorwall is what we midwesterners call a sliding glass door. I love French doors, and would like to replace our slider with those, but really our room isn't set up well for that sort of arrangement. If we left the door open, for air, it would be blocking other thngs (like television). My parents have a slider that LOOKS like French doors, it's nice. Oops, had to chase Mystique across the basement with her favorite toy. She sneaks it down here and if she were to lose it that would be sad. Our basement is a bit of a catch all area, so lots of nooks and crannies just big enough for a kitten to wander through. She's allowed to explore, but no toys! Honey, sorry to hear about your colleagues. I dread funerals, too. I'm glad your kitty is better. So pretty! The other day I was at the grocery and the cashier asked me if I'd been pruning roses. I haven't done that yet, and then I realized she was seeing all the scratches up my arm - I told her no, I have a kitten. Better get back out there for a bit. suzy

Well, I am writing here to help me deal with this, because I'm lost and don't know what else to do. Meeko seemed to take a turn for the worse early this morning - luckily I was still up and therefore was able to sleep nearby to keep an eye on her. ALthough the symptoms weren't strong, I thought she seemed "off". I called the vet the minute they opened and brought her right in. She apparently threw a blood clot overnight. Xrays showed the surgury sight was okay, no internal bleeding, but her kidneys were inflamed, big time. (The surgury had removed the large mass in her intestine, but there were those two little ones on each kidney that couldn't be removed. The surgeon advised me that taking a biopsy of these tumors could kickstart some killer cancer activity, and apparently this happened.) There was obviously some neurological damage -probably a result of a blood clot that reached her brain; we weren't even sure she could see. So about two hours ago I held her while they relieved her of her fear and confusion and suffering. You can apparently pay to have your pet cremated privately and the ashes returned to you. I've decided not to do that (I am currently wrapped up in the blanket in which she was carried to the vet - that will do for a while.) Instead I'm going to donate that money to my vet to use at her discretion for a family that can't afford medical treatment. I read something recently about the incredible amount of money we spend trying to keep our pets alive FOR US (not always for them, as you, quasifish, noted) while there are so many homeless, abused, or neglected pets, or pets that could be saved but the families haven't enough money for basic treatment. Obviously my beautiful Meeko wasn't going to recover. It was time to let her go. This is the first pet I've lost as an adult, and it's devastating. Thanks for "listening".

Hi Kids, My gastro is all done and it was a snap. The results were negative which is good and bad. No damage from the Fosomax but the Dr. want's me to now have a barium (sp?) swallow. I have an appt for that to be done this Thursday morning. But, I'm thinking that I need to talk with my Primary Care first. I have chest x-rays twice a year and am due for a chest C-scan in June. I would feel better if My PC knew of yet another radio-active event before it happens. For all of you very smart KT people...barium does have a radio-active eliment to it, right? Anyway, we were at the endoscopy center at 12:00. the process was fast and I was completely out for it. I was all finished, and was walking back out the door, heading for the car at 1:30. Not bad. I slept for most of the afternoon 2:30 - 6:00. My husband picked up chinese food for dinner so all was well. Thanks for your good thoughts. I appreciate them. sooey

Oh I'm not one to suffer in silence. I called the clinic's patient advocacy office to file a complaint. He tried to laugh it off but I, once again using little words, let him know it was not funny. He talked to the PA filling in for my doctor and talked to the desk staff. I did finally get a referral to go to urgent care downtown. Four hours later I had been seen by a doctor, a PA, and an RN. They took a sample from the wounds to determine what infection I have and I will see the podiatrist on Friday. They sent me home with cleanly bandaged toes, antibiotics, and a pain pill. I'm afraid to take the pain pill; they knock me out for days. The patient advocate did book me an appointment at the base clinic for 2:30 tomorrow "just in case" I still had a problem after seeing the Urgent Care clinic. I will be taking the issue further up the chain, too. There is no excuse for a hospital/clinic/whatever to treat their patients like this.

Hi Vickey of more or less northern climes,

Grandma used to say that worrying doesn't do a darn bit of good (I don't think that she used the word, "darn") and one of her favourite sayings was, "Don't cross bridges till you get there".

Sending good thoughts and hopes and some prayers that things are O.K. within you - body, mind and spirit.

And if not, that skilled treatment may be able to restore you to health, without a lot of hassle.

And for a positive spirit for you, throughout.

Heck - you could get run over by a bus tonight!

glad that dh is going with you. often they overload you with information, so take your time, and if you don't understand something, ask again. i'm assuming, if like my firsr visit, it was a check-up, then he scheduled surgery or plan of care.

of course i do hope your doc isn't as busy as mine and runs HOURS behind with his patients...(had a 5pm and saw him at midnight)

will be waitng to hear how everything went. don't hesitate to ask any questions from the ladies here...everyone is different, but still sisters in our fight...

Hugs and good wishes coming your way, Vickey. I always try to live by, I'll worry about 'that' when the time comes. Many prayers ate heading 'up stairs' that 'that' time will not come for you. Stay strong and keep us posted, your KT friends love you. Dottie

Vickey, I'm so glad your DH is going too. Be sure to take something to write on, also. As your doctor goes over the details with you, don't be afraid to ask questions or make comments about what you think you're hearing! I didn't get an oncologist until well after my surgery, so find it very interesting that yours is coming on board at the beginning of the process. That's pretty neat!

If you have a good idea of what you want to do already, make notes/write down questions ahead of time so you don't forget. Also don't forget to ask about an Oncotype DX test for the tumor ... they sent a piece of mine away for this test, and the results indicated I did not need to have chemotherapy.

Be brave ... you can do this. We will help.

I'll be thinking of you! yes, take a spiral binder. I have one with pockets too and it works great. Hold all my copies of reports, receipts etc. If you can think of any questions, write them down on a page and leave room in between them so you can write down the answers. A tape recorder would work too!

Vickey, as you start in that office, stop and take a breath, you will feel us surrounding you. This brings back very painful memories for me. I will never forget for the rest of my life, as I am starting down the hall to the cancer ward, my legs felt like chunks of iron. Won't go into all the details but have a wonderful ending for my story, I am not one to talk with folks when I am upset over something, and when I went into this huge room, people were sharing all around us. It seemed so natural to be talking together and sharing, normally when I go to a doctors office, we sit at the most out of the way place and not make eye contact with anyone. Guess we were all strangers that needed a friend at that very moment. Know we care.

Hi Holly, so what happened? if you feel like sharing. mine is 3/11. will find out if I need chemo or just radiation. can you let me know what happened if you feel like it. it's okay if you don't.
they told me that since my tumor was a smidgeon over a centimeter (one half inch), I will probably need chemo. I have to have radiation, but f&&*ing chemo (sorry, my Bronx comes out every now and then. I really do try and control it, but in this case -- a smidgeon over a centimeter?! I hope you all can understand. I realy am trying to control the anger, just can't help it.
I will update you all since I think alot of us are going through this. thanks for listening.
