Can I substitute?

This delicious sounding recipe is from a free magazine that my local health food store carries:

Apple Tart with Vanilla Pecan Crust

3/4 c. pecans

5 dates

1 vanilla bean pod (or 1 t. vanilla)

2/3 c. blanched almond flour or meal

1 egg

1/8 t. salt

Process pecans and dates until coarsely ground. Slit vanilla bean, scrape out seeds and add to pecan misture; pulse until well ground. Pulse in flour, egg, and salt. Continue pulsing until mixture begins to form a ball. Lightly coat 9 inch tart pan with oil. Using wet hands, press crust into pan. Prick with fork and bake at 400 degrees 10-12 minutes. Cool

Filling

4 medium Granny smith Apples, sliced very thin (1/8 inch)

1 Tb. fresh lemon juice

2 Tb. arrowroot powder

1/4 c. agave nectar

3/4 t. cinnamon

Combine all filling ingredients. Fan out apples on top of prebaked crust, layering apples as necessary. Pour jices over apples. Cover with foil, place on baking sheet and bake at 350 for 50 minutes until apples are soft but still have some texture. Serve cool.

So, although I'd like to try this, I don't want to invest in ingredients I'd never use for anything else. Can I substitute flour or cornstarch for the arrowroot powder and maple syrup (or honey) for the agave nectar?

Thanks. all you experts out there.
