I didn't see her, but my Mom commented on the exact same thing. We've seen her as one of the judges on Nashville Star, and hubby noticed it there.

Anyone who has seen pictures of Jewel knows that her teeth aren't straight. I don't believe she is missing a tooth unless it has fallen out very recently.

And this is nothing against the OP but I don't see what the fascination with her crooked tooth is. It's all over the media, people seem shocked and disgusted that she hasn't straightened her teeth. Singers often don't want to mess with their mouth or nose for fear that it will change the way they sing. I think Jewel is a beautiful person with a beautiful voice and I couldn't care less if her teeth were straight or crooked.

I love straight white teeth on people. That being said, her livelihood is her voice. If she were to "fix" her teeth, how could she sing with braces or what kind of time would it take for her to have veneers on all her teeth?

She's just fine the way she is!

I have that exact crooked tooth. Right before Jewel came onto the popular scene, I got braces (for that as well as for a major bite issue) and for the most part, it's better.

But if you can believe it, I actually had people tell me that I didn't look "like myself" anymore and that I should not have had it straightened.

So either way, I think it's cool that she's comfortable with herself the way she is. I admire her a lot for that.

I tend to agree that she doesn't fix her teeth because it could affect the way she sings.

I have veneers on three of my top front teeth, and a crown on another. The veneers definitely feel different than my natural teeth did. They stick out a tiny bit more, hit my bottom lip in a different way, and are a different "texture" than real teeth. Sometimes my lips get "stuck" on them as I talk. All these things can and do affect the way I talk and sing. I've even noticed that I'm not able to do one of the warm-up exercises we do in my chorus rehearsals, because of my veneers.

I love straight white teeth also but think as everyone said to fix them could cause her problems with her career. I love pretty teeth because mine are so so bad! Stacy

I wasn't being critical of her teeth. Lord knows that I have had enough trouble with mine. I was wondering if the "missing" tooth had anything to do with her injury that kept her from performing this season. I thought she might have fallen and damaged her tooth and knee at the same time.

It's not missing. It's just behind the other teeth. Since it's so similar to mine that's how I am sure. In my case, in certain pictures, the shadow would cast and it would 'appear' as if I were missing that tooth.

I was distracted by that when I first saw Jewel sing on TV, but I've gotten used to it.

She's an excellent singer and very pretty. I would guess she left her tooth the way it grew because it is distinctive. What uxorial said about veneers could be a reason too.

When Jewel first became a 'known' talent, she said that she would never have her teeth fixed because it was a reminder to her of when she was homeless. (or something like that.)

She lived in a car for over a year.

I read an interview in a magazine about 5 years ago and Jewel said exactly what maddielee posted, that she would never straighten her teeth because she wanted a reminder of her past struggles and how she didn't need a perfect Hollywood smile to achieve happiness.

When I saw her on TV I thought she was missing that tooth. Glad to know it is only a shadow.
