Help with 'freshing' kids bathroom- need ideas!
Comments (10)Maybe I'm crazy, but do you think a nautical wallpaper border could be mounted above the mirror to cover the unpainted part? You could run it all the way around the room, and then trim it top and bottom with a painted piece of half-round molding to really make it look deliberate. Then mount a new light fixture in place of the hollywood bar (you're right -- that absolutely has to go) and make sure you position the border so the light makes sense on the pattern (am I getting too technical here?) I mounted a huge border in my son's bedroom so that the bottom edge lined up with the bottom of the window moldings and ran it all the way around the room. My wall were a similar blue, with alternating light blue stripes. The half-round was painted a rich cranberry red and I coordinated with a box pleated red valance with tiny blue stripes. It looked really sharp. I like the vanity as is. Good luck!!...See MoreKids Friendly Bathroom Layout
Comments (8)Bathtub/shower combination with the shower on a handheld unit with a slide bar. The handheld unit is great for washing little ones in the tub and as they get older they can begin to shower with the head lower on the bar. Shower/tub and lavatory faucets are easier to operate with lever handles than knobs for young hands (and older ones, too!) I liked having the shower doors with DS - once in a while we would just close the doors and let him splash to his heart's content with no worries about water on the floor! Extra floor space is really nice to have. Imagine kneeling on the floor drying off squirmy toddlers. Storage is always good. Hooks are easier for younger kids to hang towels on than bars. Teenagers don't hang up towels, no matter what is provided. Having said all this, they are little for far too short a period of time. Don't feel the need to make drastic changes to accommodate young kids that you won't find useful later....See Moretrough sink in kids bathroom
Comments (8)sallybeth - funny - I just came across that ronbow sink yesterday! It's beautiful! I really like how thick the sides are. Makes it look really substatial. It is kinda pricey, though. zinnah - Thanks for the link. I am really thinking about that Ikea sink. You sure can't beat the price! I'm going to go check it out in person. Would love to see pictures of it with your counter. Do you think it would work set on top of a larger counter?...See MoreHoned marble in a kids' bathroom?
Comments (21)I don't mind the marble in the kitchen or laundry but I would think twice about the little kids' bathrooms unless you are super meticulous. Not only can a water cup leave a ring but if placed in the same spot over and over again, it will start to really make a mark. You can of course circumvent this by making sure that you don't leave anything on the counters but only in drawers/cabinets. We had a soap dish that we thought was never wet and lo and behold when I moved it one day it left an imprint. Because of that, I left the soap dish where it was and then forever I could never move it because it got worse and worse. My kids like to have the hand soap on their counters and so I had to purchase trays for that too--which I had to make sure were never wet underneath. It's a bit high maintenance to have marble in a bathroom. Our last house I used white granite instead and then never worried about it! Here is the white granite--totally bulletproof. Never stained etched or had ANY problems....See Moremaddielee
