honed vs polished marble floors in bathroom?
Comments (6)Another reason to get honed instead of polished marble is that when certain bathroom items (mouthwash, toothpaste, hairspray, creams--and for little boys, urine mis-aims) land on marble, they will etch the marble. With a polished finish, the etching will be obvious. With honed, you will hardly be able to see it if at all. I have marble floor tiles in my bathroom. They're not slippery cause they are smaller tiles than the 12x12 you are considering. As you mentioned, the frequency of the grout for the smaller tiles creates a non-slippery surface. I really like my marble floor. Also, the veins and coloration in the marble hide dirt or hair. In my other bathroom, I have white tile floors. The worst. Basically if you just walk in there, and one single hair falls, or you make one drip, it shows up glaringly on the white tile....See MoreFinished Bathroom Pics (two bathrooms!)--very pic heavy
Comments (41)Wooo!!! Cat, I am stuck at home because of the snow storm so wandered around here not looking at anything in particular and came upon your thread. I totally agree with you on the shower curtain choice. Regardless of whether I have the money to spare or not, keeping those suckers clean is a nuisance over time. We have a glass shower door that was installed back in 2003 and I can't tell you how much I hate cleaning it. Not that the door is all that dirty, but a shower curtain is way easier, and you can change the look/style whenever you feel like it. Can't do that with a pricey shower door. Anyway, everything looks lovely as usual, including the "prom" dress :-) Love, love those circular tiles, and the floor tiles that look like fabric. Gorgeous. What colour is that again? It looks greyish on my monitor....See MoreWhat has etched your bathroom marble, polished or honed?
Comments (9)We have polished carrera. Honestly, I haven't noticed any etching. Im sure it's there, so maybe its the lighting in the room. There's a small scratch on mine, we put a drill on it when installing window treatments. No one would notice it but me. I do occasionally notice a ring from the hand soap bottle or shampoo but it fades after a few days. We've been in the house for 18 months....See MoreHelp anyone with honed limestone bathroom floors.
Comments (10)I have the same tile- different vendor, different name, but the same stuff. It is no more slippery than the ceramic in my other bathroom. This is in my kids bathroom and they use a bath mat. It has been in for a month no problems so far, 3 showers a day (my kids are 9, 11 and 13 and very dirty). My tiles are 12X12 in a brick or off set or hopscotch pattern. It was sealed when they put it in. I plan on sealing yearly. I did try to stain the unsealed piece with all the regular stuff the kids use: blue toothpaste, conditioner, soap, etc. It made it darker in some place but hard to see because of the mottled nature of the tile. I am less worried then I would if it was a uniform color. i clean with a neutral Ph cleaner I found made by 409! Cheap and effective. My cleaners use mostly water and a little of this spray. I use it on the marble counter top too. Hope this helps!...See Morebblueskye
