When did you tell your boss?

I'm 9 weeks pg today and wondering when I should tell my coworkers and boss about the baby. We haven't told anyone yet except our parents, and I was going to tell everyone in my family during a ceremonious Mother's Day dinner - that would be almost 11 weeks and nearer the "safe point". I just had my first prenatal visit today and of course they really can't tell you much until the sonogram, which isn't til June. I just didn't want to be telling friends and coworkers before my own family knew, I guess.

Just worry about scheduling the time off, and how far in advance you'd normally need to ask that off. I was too excited to keep it in so I told my boss at about 11 weeks. But my coworker didn't tell until he and his wife were 3 months along, simply because of worry about possibly losing the baby.

I got pregnant in early April. And I notified family in their Mother's Day cards (sent out Happy Mother's Day Grandma, and Great-aunt, and so on).

You're too early to worry about announcing at work, although if they are like my coworkers, they had already been wondering because the fatigue was really getting me down bad. So they knew something was up.

The families were notified within the first 48 hours for my 1st two pregnancies. I announced my pregnancies at work at 6 weeks. The first time I did it because I was so excited. The second time my boss guessed and I had to admit it because I was feeling so nauseous that it was obvious. In my case, announcing early helped because I was expected to be in a few meetings. Morning meetings were really hard on me and it helped explain things if I had to walk out.

I moved 1000 miles, and planned on taking all my WS babies, etc. Couldn't, because I could only take what would fit in my car. As ajpa suggested, I started some cuttings of larger things that were memorial plants, so I didn't want to lose them - my Dad's rose of sharon, my nephew's hydrangea, etc. Because my brother died a few months before I moved, I also had a couple of memorial plants I had received for him that I simply never planted in the ground - they came with me. I had enough time to work on this (over a year, it turned out in the end) to collect seeds from all my wintersown plants, so that accounted for 95+ different varieties (seeds pack easier!). With the wintersown plants I had in containers from last year and this, I ultimately had to weed out - I gave away most, kept one special tomato plant, and the plants that had been difficult to germinate (beach plum - I only had one seedling after 5 years of trying - it's here in SC with me). The issue will depend on how far you have to move - if you're like Tiffy, and you're only moving 45 minutes away, you can keep a lot more stuff and make multiple trips to and fro. But if you have to go far, make your priorities the stuff you can't otherwise replace - WS proved to me that in 5 years, I can grow most anything, so if it's not a memorial plant or a difficult germinator, I took seeds instead. What if someone gets sick and dies - who's left holding what (yourself included)? Hmm, good question. I wonder if we could arrange to have it in writing, who the property goes to if someone gets hit by a truck. Because he is a landlord, can he change the lease agreement once the prior lease expires? Is is a yearly lease agreement that is able to be altered each year? I think we would probably look at a single long lease, at least 2 years, with our option to buy at the end of the lease protected. it appears that you made up your mind and you won't listen to what anyone else says no matter what No, that isn't true. Just because I don't agree with other people's conclusions doesn't mean I'm not thinking about the points they bring up. I don't understand why you're so certain that you would be unable to get a rental that you like better than your current one. Three months of research. Main thing is relationship between employer & employee. I my own self would not like to have a business contract interfere with that. Unless there's a friendship outside of work hours, isn't the relationship between employer & employee exactly a business contract? In the event of a disagreement, the boss almost always wins, & you could find yourselves with no home & no job either. People have said this several times but no one has offered a plausible scenario to *how* it would happen that couldn't happen now or in another rental. I mean, if you have one, I'm all ears, I just haven't seen one. I'm going to call several lenders Monday and see what they accept as a down payment from a rent-to-own situation, because I agree having a third-party lender would be a way safer option. As a southerner we have a history of telling stories and it was very much a part of my upbringing though trying to fit all those tales into some sort of coherent history is another matter. We practiced our own history with my mother starting "remember whens" My mother was a spoiled only child and most of her stories were about how special she was to her doting father. My father did not talk much about his childhood though I know they moved frequently as my grandfather was a mason and builder. I spent a good deal of time with my mothers step-mother-my Grannie- and learned as much about her life as I could. She was a child of the depression-something that for her on a prosperous farm in the south was just something they heard about happening elsewhere. Grow your own food and make your own clothes and you only need money for taxes and coffee and salt. I loved hearing about her life. she was one of a big family of girls and they had to work like boys. Their father did not want them to leave home so for each of them it was an adventure to leave. I don't have children and have always lived all the way across the country from my kin so I have had no one to pass on what I know nor about my own life but there you are. I love social history and yet historians will use the lives of the rich and famous thinking they are telling you how people lived in the past-the one tenth of the one percent.

Isn't THAT the truth? I was working on a project, where we had a daily 10 am checkpoint call. I had to sit thru everyone else's updates for an hour, then it would be my turn to talk about my part of the project. Geez by then, I was asleep half the time! LOL

Well, I told my boss yesterday. He was really excited for us to the point where I thought he was going to jump out his chair. My husband had told a friend of his, who knows some people DH works with - and since this is a very small school community (everyone basically lives and works together - and knows everyone else's business) someone would eventually find out. Morning sickness is almost over for the most part, but I've had a two-day headache and lately can barely keep my eyes open at work. But thankfully my boss is pretty flexible and told me if I needed time off or whatever. I just hope he understands that ... um....I'm not coming back! LOL I can easily work from home or do freelance for them. But after I leave the office, that's it!
