what can I do with this wall above fireplace? And the long window??
Comments (8)the first option is not old fashionable..it's traditional..a pretty classic one. it will be much more in line with your tastes as you explain them, than stacked stone you don't need to prolong the wall visually there-and the more massive fireplace will partially obscure the window..they're just too close I'd go with a first option..or variation of it..then I'd balance the window with an art over the fireplace that you love. The fireplace will also be lighter and read more natural. I'd consider window treatment as well. Do you need privacy there, light control? Maybe you can go for more stationary treatment, like one curtain pulled to the side. or maybe a stationary cornice..same color as the wall whatever it will be..will make window look shorter, more framed. In any case requires careful consideration. you'll have time to figure it out when your new freplace will be in; but start looking at the pics etc. the window seems a bit too tall..any reason for that? how does it look from exterior? do you need more light in the room? It dwafs the door a bit I know there are tricks to make a window seem shorter than it is..if that's what you'll decide to do..even with moldings..I don't remember enough about it right now though maybe you'll be interested in this blog https://laurelberninteriors.com/ (her taste is new traditional..she writes a lot about everything including windows, fireplaces, etc, and is an honest and amusing writer too) or in reading this author https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/0307408655/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o08_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1 he is famous for his work of combining traditional with modern touches. obviously he's opionated about some stuff because he explains his own style; but lots to learn and admire anyway...See MoreHow can I add interest to a long hallway
Comments (17)I think if you keep the frames all the same size with white matts then add your colorful photos and don’t get all stressed about the colors working.I agree 3 fixtures would be a good idea make sure they are LEDs in 4000K to keep the colors true....See MoreWhat can I do to visually widen this hallway?
Comments (21)Oh my gosh! Such wonderful suggestions! I did not want to remove the wainscoting (and my husband loves it) so I'm glad I found some fantastic solutions here. This is my first time asking for help on Houzz and I am so impressed with everyone's help and kindness. I'm not very computer literate so I hope I thanked you all properly. I am humbled by your responses and willingness to help. Thank you all so much!!! I know which way I'm going now ( @Diana Bier, @Jinx, @freedomplace1 and @decoenthusiaste, a special thanks for all the visual help with the photos. I really appreciate it!)...See MoreHallway with ugly vents and attic. what should I do with this hallway?
Comments (7)Where does the doorway that's closest to it lead? Is it frequently used? Can't tell if there would be enough room for one of these (altho a 3 panel might work best). If it doesn't block the door on the right, it could just be sitting on the floor. But if there is not much room to pass through that door, you could attach one side with hinges to the sidewall and then maybe just a hook and eye on the other side to hold it in place, but it would easily swing open to access the closet behind. Before someone comes along and says it will block the air vents, it won't. It wouldn't be installed tight up against them and air flows like water....anyone trying to weatherproof their homes can testify to how easy it is for air to flow. Lots of choices. These are all from Wayfair. You could also look at peel and stick murals that would cover the whole thing. The vents would be a little labor intensive or look for a pattern that could disguise them. Or paint them a color/s to blend in. I just googled peel and stick murals for closet doors....See Morecinlo
