Should I match my island or go with black?

I'm conserned about trending out and about being too "risky" my kitchen guy says do the cabinets the maple color you see in the pics and then go black on the island with rubbed edges..Use the same countertop on both thoughts??

Here is the cabinet we have picked, maple with glaze... still haven't picked countertop (trying to decide between granite and silestone) and light vs dark... trying to keep it warm traditional

I am doing maple with a glaze and the black distressed island, countertops the same on both. We are not building yet but already have the cabinets designed and picked out. I like the look because I want my island to look like a piece of furniture separate from my cabinets and I think it will look more distinguished. I will also have a separate hutch in black and my hood the same. I think it is a personal preference but I personally like it! Go with your gut-

I like the idea as you present it, with the island being black with rubbed edges. Having the counters all the same would pull the space together. Your floor tile is very pretty as are your cabinets.

Too funny, someone just told me today I should paint my living room black. Black is hot. And cool. But, I too think you need lots of white to contrast.. and your pretty tub, floor, mirror and chair may get lost.... I almost did a pretty black wallpaper in my bathroom, but the expense was too great for me.. Your bathroom will be beautiful.

Thanks for the votes of confidence. I really thought I'd be starting a riot. So many people have told me just to leave it alone, it's fine, classic white kitchen, etc. But it's just never felt right. Now I'm excited about it! The rugs were just cheapies from Kirklands. So not worth heart failure, Amy! Believe me, paint would be the most mild thing that has ever been on them. Dog slobber, muddy paws, hair, pancake batter drips, grease splatters, various sundry spilled drinks, etc. all adorn those rugs. The beauty of the pattern is that they show nothing, and they're wool, so they've so far been indestructable. Just to set everyone's mind at ease, the pic of the paint tray was at the very, very end of the project, and there was only a few drops left in the deepest part of the paint well. No rug was harmed in the filming of this project. :)

which loveseat should I match my black velvet sofa ?

You need 2 chairs instead of a loveseat. BTW both the colored pieces you show are sofas and when they become lovesets the proportion is not as attractive. @ chairs in a bright color would be nice I assume the top photo is your sofa which BTW looks like a loveseat I might be a bit confused.I think something a bit fun would be good or if you want to keep it more on the formal side .I would like to see the whole room myself.

Can you post a picture of the back of your house? What about white windows? Maybe paint the portico posts and porch railings white as well? The first image is similar. That might allow you to use the black door if you really like the look of a black door. Not sure how it would look with keeping the soffit color the same, but just throwing out ideas! The second image is a house with similar colors as yours, with a black door, which looks nice too. Granted, both houses have shutters and your home is not conducive to adding shutters.
