The last picture in the first post is probably the best picture I can get of the wall with the misplaced sconces - the one that has to move is open hole, with blue tape to the left of it where it was supposed to be. The other is behind one of the chandy lights at this angle. Unfortunately, once I saw the room with furniture in it, I realized that a picture hanging b/t the sconces would also be obscured by the chandy (unless maybe you're sitting at the table). I'll try to stand at the foot of the table tomorrow and take another picture so you can see both sconce locations. I can't believe I never caught this on the plans! Question is not could I move the sconce, but should I? Since I compounded the builder's error by laying the floor in a pattern centered on the room, should I leave the sconces centered and move the chandy (whenever we repaint the ceilings - maybe a medallion would hide the current hole and we could move it now?), which would mean moving the table closer to the windows than it is to the china cabinet, and maybe even moving the small buffet server to b/t the windows since it is the same depth as the china cabinet? That would just make it harder to move around the table and pull out chairs, since the room is only 13 ft wide. Thank you for the compliments on my great-grandmother. Now we know where we all got our blue eyes from (except DD - she got some hazel combo from my blue and DH's green)!

Pammyfay, thank you so much for your opinion and making me feel better about my choices since I have never chosen matting and frames before. I love the Sovia frame and I am glad I went with my instinct. It is so pretty in person with the black grooves on the sides adding some style to the frame without it being too busy for the print. When I opened the package, I was so in love with the picture the way it was. But tonight seeing it lean on the wall and I guess the linen off-white mat picked up the creamier wall color (BM Bone white I have on the walls which is a few shades darker than the picture's linen off-white frame and the lighting is fluorescent modern lamps with no natural light at night. But standing in front of the picture has me in awe of the beauty of the print and the texture of the linen mat and the texture of the suede inner mat. I love the design I chose but I guess I pictured the mat looking less creamy. So glad you also love the black grooved frame and you could tell by the picture I posted. :) Thanks for letting me know you have a similar frame that sounds beautiful.

Back! Our home is like a demolition zone. Hides my lack of time for house keeping lol! About the lighting, there is currently no hardwired light in the downstairs hallway. There once was and it's been long gone and the wiring and hole in the ceiling are still there. For the landing I literally just couldn't bear (? right bear?) looking at the heinous light that was there so it is not even an option. In the upstairs there never was a light and it is very dark especially at night. We stumble around in the dark and use the lighting from the bedrooms to see at night. Since the electrician was fixing certain issues we decided to have him just add a line for an upstairs fixture. Our wiring is primarily still knob and tube which he said is in remarkable condition but the PO was a wannabe electrician and there's a lot of crazy crap going on. ie: fire hazards. As far as crystals bouncing weird light, that already happens w/ the leaded glass doors in the downstairs hall. It's actually one of the reasons I love my walls white in there - there are always little rainbows dancing on the walls. The stained glass window casts odd light anyways. The entire center looks clear but it is actually pink, casting a lovely pink glow everywhere. That means it was impossible to pick a color to paint the walls because it always took on the pink cast. Anyhoo - I signed off on the addition of an upstairs light today and I like this one. Not wild about the shiny base but I can fix that and am open to doing that. The upstairs hallway is white walls, white trim & 1 large wall sized mirror in a gold frame and small gold framed scenic lithographs. Could something like this on a larger scale work downstairs? Seems to share some of the similar features like the milk glass/ alabaster shade as some of those suggested. The back wall of the downstairs hallway is the first thing that you see when you open the French doors and walk in the house. I have this very large canvas to go on that wall when the dust settles inside. It takes up almost the entire wall: Or do you think the 1st one would look better downstairs? There is no other artwork or anything else in the entry hall. I love the mix of old and new so I purposely decided to play up the mix by only using black and white photos in gallery frames in the downstairs. I was hoping that may open up my lighting options to being able to be a bit more eclectic if desired. I really need to look at Rejuvenation. I used to get their catalogs. No mntredux, you do not have to paint dark wood. I'm so glad that I always refrained from doing so downstairs. One of my most favorite homes was that of Tricia Foley's NYC Brownstone. All of that dark wood paired w/ her signature white, light and simple décor was breathtaking. Beverly27, Thank you for posting those lights and letting me know where you got the pics. I've spent so much time on the Lowes & HD websites but I just get so overwhelmed w/ all of the choices! You gave me good direction there - thank you! My downstairs hall ceilings are painted black. Instead of trying to make my entry hall seem wider w/ paint, I decided to play up how narrow it is. I absolutely positively love my black ceilings and have for several yrs! I just bought 2 exterior lights there today for our front porch which should soon be done. I was just told that my porch column bases were finished and are ready to be picked up by the contractor.

Hi Newdawn. I think that generally the art and frame should be in similar condition. IOW, if the frame has a lot of wear/patina, I would go with a more rustic piece of art, or at least something with more actual texture, like a painting. For a smooth surface, I'd want a less rustic frame. It's about balance...at least to my eye. Pics are a bit fuzzy but, from what I can see, I think you'd need a new mat. The current mat looks very bright and spiffy. I'd probably try to pick up a slightly darker, (but still light) color from the scene. Maybe a medium gray from the building on the left. Then I'd double mat with a "color" like maybe green. Again, hard to see from the photos. Is that a fabric fillet? Those can be replaced or even painted. So, after that long answer, I'll give you my short one....I think you could do better. Even the subject matter has a spare quality to it and the frame does not. JMO. I am honored you asked me and hardly feel expert. Just opinionated! :-) Certainly happy to try to help though....
