I blanched mine, cut off the cob and packed in freezer bags lying flat. This way after they are frozen they stack nicely upright.

Here is a link that might be useful: Corn

Blanch 5 min., cool as quick as possible (ice water) cut off the cob and freeze.

Terri, do it as soon as you can after picking, the faster the better, is the old saying. You'll really enjoy it in the winter.

I use an angel food cake pan to cut it off the cob... place the ear on the center and the kernels fall into the pan as you cut.

I don't know if it was you who posted this method on the harvest forum, but I did this using my bundt pan ... worked great !! Thanks :)

Thanks Ladies! Grainlady..thank you for the site! I wanted to do some corn on the cobs for our Easter dinner. We always have a family over, and they LOVE corn on the cob...

I'll put some kernals away too...

And yep, I'll pick in the morning, bring them home and process..
Can I wrap them in plastic wrap (the cobs) then put the wrapped cobs in a freezer bag?

I put up alot of sweet corn.

For cream style , cut off the top third of the kernel and drag your knife down the cob to get the milk out of the kernels (don't know if that is the right terminology.) Blanch, cool, bag and freeze. We prefer cream style.

I cut off some whole kernel for soups/stews, just cut it off close to cob and blanch, adding a little water so it doesn't burn.

I blanch mine in the microwaver, 1100 watts for 20 minutes, stirring once. The microwave is easier for me because it is so hard to blanch sweet corn, cut off the cob on the stove top, it burns so easily.

Been doing this for 20+ years and has always worked and tastes just as fresh as the day you put it up.

Hope this helps.

Thanks Trixie!

I put mine in zip lock bags, 3-4 ears per bag and they stack nicely. I put up not quite a bushel of corn this year. We will celebrate the first snow with some fresh frozen corn.

I only put up one package (small freezer) of whole cobs. I thought they would be good for Thanksgiving and/or Christmas.

Terri, I stopped doing corn on the cob because my freezer space is used up by so many other things. I used to blanch, put into ice water (make sure the cob is cool all the way through), then pack like Michelle, 4 to 6 ears per bag, just enough that they could lie flat in the freezer.

Now I blance for 4 or 5 minutes, cut it off the cob and put into freezer bags. I put the bags on a baking sheet and freeze, that way they freeze flat and I can stack them.

Thanks Ladies, I think I'll do about a dozen cobs, so that'll give me 24 half cobs, then a few dozen cobs cut off the cob..
Depends on what time I have...
