Conflicting info from 2 painters for exterior house painting

My house has not been painted for years. The previous owners had put a dark chocolate brown oil stain on it.

Realizing that it now needs paint, we took quotes from two painters. We asked for a light color(cream).

Painter A said he will have to paint with oil primer first and then 2 coats of solid latex. He said that because the wood panels are super dry(which is true) the oil primer will do it good.He said he will paint it any light color.

Painter B said that oil primer is not the way to go, just 2 coats of solid latex should be sufficient. Also since it is currently dark color , he said making it really light would require 3 coats and more expensive and also the panels that are burnt up in some places will show 'shades' if we go light. His quote was needless to say cheaper, because he is doing 2 coats.

Both said they will powerwash, caulk cracks, paint trim, bang new nails etc.

Now whom should I believe.? Does my house need a oil primer or not.? Also how many years does 2 coats of latex paint last.?

Any information is much appreciated.
