Prayed for rain but we're getting a blizzard

We've had very little moisture since September---maybe an inch---so we've been praying for rain.

It's spitting/misting here and expected to change to snow shortly. We live in the 10-16" swath on the map, all of which is expected to fall today and tomorrow with 50 mph winds. Our county is one of many in a blizzard warning! They are saying this storm will likely be of "historic proportions" for our state.

One town in the panhandle is already without power. It's going to be an interesting couple of days. But we are so dry here, we'll take it!!!

Rita, I am in the 3 to 7 inch area, and am not looking forward to snow. My peonies are up, my cannas are up, and my dog wood is blooming.

weather.com shows 2.68 inches at Midlothian airport, but my gauge shows 4". It's nearly all gone from my yard now, just the low spot in my driveway has a puddle. We took the gutters down to paint and the water ran down the valley by the front porch and filled the flower beds instantly. We got a LOT of rain. I was afraid to do laundry yesterday in case the septic lines couldn't get rid of the water but today I did a load with no problem. I had noticed some big cracks in the yard Wednesday and they are all gone today. I hope the next deluge hits the rest of you and we just get a nice little shower.

With all the talk of cookies and cookie dough I couldn't stopped laughing after seeing debrak's photo!! (and of that super-loaded corner one id'd upthread with dibs! And as far as rescuing cookies visiting the floor, agree with annkh -especially since if I can cut the burnt bottoms off, I can and would just wipe them off if needed! Springroz - Just loved that shot of JR pulling the sleigh - ooohh just gorgeous! a2gemini - glad to see someone mention the blizzard of 66. As a young teenager my older sibs and I spent many extra days at home alone when our parents were stuck returning from an out-of-state funeral. They were nearly killed on the interstate and were lucky to get the last room at a motel. Snow levels were 8 feet with drifts over 12. As far as stocking up, I've often wonder if our interest in stocking up is a leftover evolutionary behavior...cannot for the life of me recall the actual term/phrase. I did only my regular shopping a day early, but did feel pressed to go before rather than after! Interesting thread! ...

Too funny -- it's not like we D.C. area folks are sitting around rooting to hit a new record, but ... it hit 105 at Reagan National, then up to 106. That 106 would have tied the record, but to be statistically valid, the mercury had to stay at that level for 3 minutes. It didn't. But Sunday should be practically tropical: Highs only between 95 and 100!

We're also getting a LOT of rain. It's rained for most of 10 days now, and the ground is saturated. Sun came out today, but we've got more clouds on the horizon. We're hoping for a sunny today because our house warming party is SATURDAY!!! :)

All of my flowers are up, too, and my fruit trees bloomed several weeks ago. *sigh*

Is that a garden shed, Moni? Looks cool!

We are getting light rain/sleet now but the freezing line is inching closer. And the wind is HOWLING! Channel 9 is showing lots of ice accumulating on the power lines north and west of here. Hope this darn thing doesn't turn into an ice storm instead!

We have a woodburning fireplace and TONS of firewood, so we should be OK. We also have a generator. :-)

The snow will not hurt any of the perennial plants...believe me,we get the *freak* spring snows all the time.

The weight of it,if it is a lot,may bend or break some of them,but the cold of the snow will not hurt them

Rita and Moni - Hey you're getting a snow day! Get your boots and gloves and go make a snow angel.

Seriously- sorry you're getting such a late snowstorm.I hope the ice doesn't damage anything. Stay warm.

Well dang! I heard the blizzard warning this morning. I think were probably just going to get snow and it's going to melt. I was going to go pick up a few groceries this afternoon, but I may go now just so I don't fight the crowd.

At church a few weeks ago, our pastor told us someone had called him from Iowa (we broadcast our services online). The caller told our pastor that he'd appreciate it if we would be more specific geographically when we prayed for rain because they had gotten plenty and didn't need any more!

I was concerned about my plants too. Cannas are up, wisteria and spirea are blooming.

On the good side, after all these warm 70-80 degree days we already have fleas and ticks that I hope will freeze.

We're in this same freaky storm/blizzard, Rita; I feel so sorry for the birdies. I may have to pull the shade..hate to see them out there today..especially after watching them having such a lovely day yesterday.

Mother Nature has lousy timing. We're dry, too, but...

So far this morning we've had rain, freezing rain, sleet, and hail. No snow yet, but they say it is still coming...right after the ice. *sigh*

Oh dear, Rita, no snow yet...ice is so damaging and scarey; hate to hear y'all are getting all that, too.

Winds are still howling and you can't get or out of Amarillo by road or air. Nothing but snow here and none of those pretty flakes either.

The birds still look miserable..can't believe how busy they are today.
