OK ,We're Building An Ark...

Whos getting on??Geeze we're getting like 3 storms a day,Thunder,Lightening ,heavy downpours ,floods every other day now.

Kind of unfair isn't it? LOL The places suffering from droughts and wildfires could sure use some of that and I'm sure you wouldn't object to a little dry weather!

Feel free to post pictures of your ark! Have you named it yet? I'd suggest Hope. Then you could have a webcam of the progress. ;)

I like a little rain now and then, but after a while it gets depressing. We've had our fair share, too.

I'm putting in for a 'little' rain ~ we're waaay too dry here (again), but we'd prefer not to have gully washers! (course, there aren't too many gullys here...) Sorry bout that water in the basement, Dave, and the washouts, Karyn......too much water is just not a pleasant thing to have to deal with..........

sedum, I found it to be very safe. Most of the violence these days is in the Palestinian areas and, for the most part, life goes on in its normal fashion. The Israelis take security VERY seriously, as evidenced by the security checkpoints and the abundance of young men and women in military uniforms walking around with automatic weapons. One does not crack jokes about the military, security, etc, in Israel. Still, there are obvious signs of past violence. I stayed at the Dan Panaorama in Tel Aviv, which is right across the street from the disco where 70+ Israeli kids were killed in a bomb blast a few years ago. And, when I asked why they didnÂt build a subway system to help with the horrendous traffic problem the reply was "Security." As with most of my travel, I donÂt dwell on the risk that my plane will crash, that IÂll be kidnapped, that IÂll be blown up, etc. ItÂs kind of a fate thing. For example, while I was over there, two Palestinians were caught trying to sneak into Jerusalem with a suicide pack, while I also was heading into Jerusalem. Guess it just wasnÂt my time. To be frank, I think my life is in greater danger, when I zip down I91 trying to get past Hartford before rush hour than it was in Israel. narcnh p.s. In the Garden of Gethsemane there are huge hollyhocks growing. As I admired one, my guide said, "Hollyhock." When I told him I had them growing in my garden back home, he couldnÂt believe it. Guess they think the plants are only found in hot climates. So, if you grow hollyhocks, you can say you are growing a plant found on the Mount of Olives.

Yes! I was really freaked out when I first noticed it! My heart just sunk. I had worked for weeks getting the bottom on this pool perfect, just perfect. I wanted those expensive ColorLogicLEDs to look perfect when reflecting across this glassy smooth pool bottom (OK, maybe it wasn't glassy smooth, but those lights were all I could think about when I was troweling it on!) This pool bottom was really really smooth. But unfortunately I couldn't drop the liner in immediately due to the irregular pool shape. The liner had to be custom measured (using point-to-point) and custom made. It was supposed to take 2 weeks to get here, but the manufacturer ended up taking nearly 2 months!! By then the weather had turned cold. We left standing water in the pool bottom and around the pool itself. The water was freezing and thawing (both on top of, and underneath the surface) which cracked the pool bottom. We never even realized it until it was too late. However just before we drop in the liner, we are going to COMPLETELY remove those "cracked" sections with a sledge hammer, and totally replace it with a new bottom in those places. Can anyone think of anything better to do? (short of demolishing the whole thing) What would you do if this was a liner replacement? My biggest concern with the moving sections was not just to repair them, but to determine what caused them in the first place. The "Good News" was that I'm fairly certain that it was the standing water/freeze/thaw conditions that created the problem. By knowing that, I can redirect the water, let the soil dry out, and then feel confident that repairing the section will work. I'm just a simple DIYer, so I may be missing something here. That's one of the reasons that I'm posting it. Can anyone think of a better way to handle it? Would it be helpful to add rebar in those sections? (I wouldn't think so, as the rest of the pool doesn't have it.) This pool bottom seems really fragile. The directions for the installation say to only walk on it with soft bottomed shoes, don't spray water from a hose directly on it, etc. When I work with the portland cement/sand mix, I feel like I'm building a giant sandcastle! It's not at all strong like cement or even mortar. My personal feeling is that the sooner the liner is on it the better. My mistake seems to be letting Old Man Winter get here in between finishing the bottom, and dropping in that liner! Please keep the suggestions comin'!! -Renee

Today's rain gauge showed another 1.25" just for the past day. We have had standing water in the yard for over two weeks (we're on the next-to-the-lowest spot on the street). We're starting to grow algae in it. I can only imagine the mosquitos, chiggers, ticks and snakes that are just multiplying out in that swamp. DH hasn't been able to mow in almost 3 weeks, the grass is a foot tall and it all just looks like a mess. It WILL NOT stop raining at my house. The only positive note from the yard is that the flowers, trees, shrubs and potted plants are going crazy. I bet my cannas have grow 2 feet with all of this rain. I need for it to stop raining for at least a week, so we can dry out and mow, but the forecast is now showing more heavy rain for Sat/Sun.

I love rain but even I could do with a sunny cool day. Yesterday after almost 2 inches , the sun was shining so the dogs and I did our three mile walk. Half way there, it drizzled and then let loose in a deluge which soaked us all to the skin. I have NEVER in my life been in a rain like that. Crossing a street soaked my feet past my ankles..like a river. The humidity is beyond belief for two weeks now. Everything is damp and smells like a locker room. To think I prayed for rain in July. ..Just ones of these storms would have done so much good. The wettest month in history, the wettest Sept in history and the wettest year and we have three months to go. No decent hair days for me.

We've had a fairly rainy summer.

I've had a dehumidifier working sometimes in the basement, and there were not many nights when I turned on the furnace fan to move cooler basement air up through the house.

I found a small dehumidifier a while ago, and when I brought it home found that the fan works ... but not the part that sucks the moisture out of the air ... which is likely the main reason that it was sitting there on the curb.

Anyway ... the other day when I went into my closet, on the shady corner of the house, I found that some of my clothes had molded.

Drat!

P.S. I commisserate with the lady who, while tryingto walk on water, with her dogs, was found to be walking through water up to her ankles ... and, through the heaviest downpour in memory, they were all soaked to the skin. I assume that, since it would only have to permeate fur on the dogs, that they would have been soaked to the skin first.

I haven't been all wet, very often, myself, through the summer ... and none of your sharp comments on that, please. The garden's fairly close to a shed, the barn or the house.

We're also getting a LOT of rain. It's rained for most of 10 days now, and the ground is saturated.

Sun came out today, but we've got more clouds on the horizon.

We're hoping for a sunny today because our house warming party is SATURDAY!!! :)

I have some "free to a good home" Goldfish (15yo) if you need the Ark couple or just some sushi.

Crap, just realized, in an Ark flood, fish won't be a big seller.

I heard on tv this morning that this month we (I don't live but 20 miles away Bulldinkie) have had 21 days with some rain.
Might be 22 with the sky looking cloudy now.

Since the humidity is gone now and it's cool(thank God) I thought it would clear up. No... tomorrow we'll have rain and very cool temps. I like the temps, not more rain.

They said we were just a hair short of the record 18.55" this month.Thats alot of rain.
