Looks like we're going to break records too

As of 2:20 today, we are officially at 101 with the heat index making it feel like 102. Ugh!

I know the Washington DC area has broken records as a couple of my friends have emailed me. Officially 104 at Regan National.

Hi Steve!!!!
I was thinking about you the other day. We haven't seen much of you lately at all! I remember all the baking you were doing at Christmas, and then your wedding. We need updates and the pics are long overdue! LOL

It's been a really odd Spring here. Very early warm-up, then late frost warnings for the northern part of the state (the last one was last week), then 80's-90's again. The whole month of June so far has been dry in my part of the state except for a few sprinkles, we are way behind in rainfall, while the northwestern part of the state is around 300% of normal. It's almost been like gardening in SoCal, sunny, warm, and dry every day. Personally, I like that, since I was able to work in the garden every day & got everything in. But then, I irrigate; for those who depend upon rainfall for their gardens (like Denninmi) it is a disaster. All the local farmers got their crops in much earlier than normal due to the April warmup, but might lose them if we don't get rain soon. Just the opposite of recent years, when we were so wet we hardly went 3 days in a row during May & June without a downpour. Just goes to show how the weather tends to balance out over time... which is the difference between weather and climate.

Looks like we're right in the path of a substantial hailstorm...

Paula, I never really finish because I've always putting something into empty spots after early crops come in, but this weekend I've been trying to plug in holes in the big garden caused by the removal of sugar snap pea vines and cauliflower plants that have been harvested. If the hail gets what I planted yesterday and will finish planting today, then I have about 10 flats of tiny summer herbs and flowers coming along in the greenhouse for more replacements. To keep a garden full in OK with our heat and weather, I always have something in flats that I can put into the ground at just about any time. I'm hoping the hail and tornadoes miss us all today, but realistically speaking, it seems likely someone's gardens will get hit. There are years here that it seems the weather is determined to demolish our gardens, especially in April through June. Susan, I heard from Reed late last night and he said his plants had survived 60 mph winds that hit their area. Hopefully another round of storms didn't hit his family's home and garden after that. One day down, two to go and then everyone can maybe breathe a sigh of relief for at least a few days. Mia's pool area always looks spectacular. I enjoy seeing what she does with it each summer. Dawn

On March 22nd, they showed up at 7:15 to do the steel reinforcement (rebar). Now it's really taking shape and looking more and more like a pool. They also installed copper to ground the pool. They were done by noon. The pool builderâÂÂs electric company sent a representative to give me a quote for running the electrical from the house out to where the motor will be for the gate. As we thought, they were less than using the fence companyâÂÂs electrical company since theyâÂÂll be here for the pool build anyway. While the representative was here, I asked him about a few other electrical needs we might want them to do (such as outdoor lighting, re-working some light switch controls for existing outdoor lighting, and getting a refrigerator in the garage to work). ItâÂÂs a good opportunity to pay them on the side to do some of these smaller jobs since theyâÂÂll be here anyway. I signed the fence contract I was emailed, and scanned it and our survey plat and replied to their email and attached these documents. They should be applying now with the City for a fence permit. The fence company has told me to contact them when the pool company is finishing up their coping and about to frame up the decking. They would like about 1 week's notice before they start our job, and they'll need about 3 days to complete it.

Ha ha! When I first saw the post-it note idea it didn't seem especially helpful. Then it came time to empty my kitchen, a daunting and discombobulating process. After checking and rechecking the same cupboard for about the tenth time, I remembered the post-it notes, which suddenly sounded genius! Thank you all for your words of encouragement! I'll post updates.

I wish everyone would post their locations when they post weather info so we have some idea where it is happening. I try checking the profile info but usually that does not help.

Here in Houston last year we were in the hottest temps in years plus the horrible drought which killed so many of our big beautiful trees. This year we are having some rain and although it is very very hot the temps are not quite as high.
But of course we have the humidity off the Gulf which makes it steamy hot.

Cool down here, it's ONLY 93 at 2ish. It is cooler than what we've been experiencing this time for the past few weeks.

95 at 4:34pm. here in northeast Ohio - oops make that 94, it just dropped a degree. Might get a thunderstorm as there is a warning out until 7pm.

I always worry about the lawn mowers and gas can in the garage! Will they explode?

It's 103 here. I don't if we are breaking records. I get all of my news from the daily paper.

98 here, when I walked out work in Lexington about an hour ago it was 103....I thought I was back in Phoenix AZ in the middle of the day! I walked outside and over to the parking garage...up the elevator to the 4th floor only to remember it was Saturday and I had parked my car at the VA parking garage...yep.

Thought I would dig out my summer sandles today though I really don't need them yet. It is pleasantly cool in coastal southern California.

Too funny -- it's not like we D.C. area folks are sitting around rooting to hit a new record, but ... it hit 105 at Reagan National, then up to 106.

That 106 would have tied the record, but to be statistically valid, the mercury had to stay at that level for 3 minutes. It didn't.

But Sunday should be practically tropical: Highs only between 95 and 100!
