Need help with choosing product for cedar siding

I have a 13-year-old house with cedar siding. The house really needs re-painting. In the past we have used the CWF semi-transparent stain made by flood. It's worked great when I applied it on our outbuildings on composite board, but it has not done well on our cedar siding house when applied by others. I don't know if the difference is in the wood or the painters. Perhaps CWF just isn't good for cedar siding, I don't know. Add in the new VOC products, and I'm wondering if I should go with an oil-based product rather than a water-based product like CWF. Suggestions are welcome.

Were your Homes' shakes back-primed/stained?

How well insulated/vapor-barrier equipped is the home?

Often-times, the enemy is "within", meaning lots of moisture-transmission OUT thru the siding!
If natural siding isn't back-primed/stained, this can be a problem; i.e., moisture pushing-off stains/paints...ESPECIALLY IF moisture can easily penetrate the backside of the siding.

When the home was build one coat of CWF was put on the house, and then more was added through the years.

I do not know about vapor barrier within the walls. Insulation is there of course but probably not great. Underneath the house is dry, with plastic laid down.

SW Greek Villa (trim?) and SW Tree Branch. I don't want my siding to be too dark and am afraid to not have enough contrast if one color is too light to go with Greek Villa for trim. It is crunch time since the siding will be complete within the next 2 weeks. Thank you for your help! Looks like you have the program that allows you to paint the color on the siding. I like the stone removed....less is more. I'm not sure I like the white railings; if you go with black windows, I would do the railings the same color like the first picture you posted. But I'd also rethink the black windows. I know they are trendy right now, but I have heard of people regretting the choice. At the very least, I would consider having the windows white on the inside.

These are the colors I'm drawn to. I could not find an example of a house with any of these though. Ask the company who is doing your siding to give you addresses of houses with the siding. Also if you can narrow it down to to or three, get large samples (at least three by three feet) of those colors so you can prop them up to the house to visualize.
