WOW! Miss Jenni sent me the cutest set of pink Croc-a-doodle-doo-dads! My camera battery is charging so I don't have a pic -- but THANK YOU, jenni! They are the cutest thing ever!!! You are a true "KT angel" and greatly appreciated.

Good news, and bad news- RMV strikes again!

I went to Home Depot in Santa Clarita today and saw RMV on the Iceberg roses they were selling. I asked the manager about it and he said the grower assured him they were treated. I let him know that heat treatment is the only way and the grower is not going to do that for Iceberg roses. He claims that Lowe's uses the same grower, but I don't know if that's true. So, I'll probably see RMV popping up all over my city. Iceberg is the most planted rose in this area.

Grow lights are no substitute for sunlight. While plants can grow perfectly fine under lights, the sun emits a far broader spectrum of electromagnetic wavelengths. Not only does it give off visible light, it also gives off infrared and ultraviolet radiation as well. The ultraviolet rays are what cause a plant's leaves to get sunburned, just like it does with us and our skin. This is what sunscreen blocks. When you feel the warmth of the sun on your skin, this is the infrared. Plants that can tolerate direct sun are usually already acclimated to it when they've been grown outside and exposed to it. When plants are raised indoors, they haven't built up this natural protection to these UV rays. This is why, when we move our plants outdoors, we have to do so gradually. This gives our plants the time they need to adjust to receiving these intense rays, no matter how much artificial light they've been grown in prior to this.

I do a lot of propagation of woody and other interesting plant material, and give the propagules a good start on their way toward bonsai. When people visit and show interest, I give these plants away. Of course, they look soo much better if they're in a nice pot, so I always have my eyes peeled for cheap ones. A few years ago, I bought about 3 dozen smallish soup bowls (hold about 2 cups of soil) with interesting drip glaze or planty-looking hand-painted patterns for $.99 each from Walmart. Obviously, soup bowls don't come with holes, but a .5 inch diamond core drill (around $20) makes short work of putting a hole in the bottom. You get about 20 holes per bit fir vitrified materials (glass/ceramic) - depending on the hardness.. If you are drilling terra-cotta, you might get 100 holes per bit. Repots I've been doing for the last 3 weeks: Sort of hard to see everything. These are my deciduous trees. I have about an equal number of conifers and tropicals, so this about 1/3 of my collection. You guys are funny!
Ruthie...I cut the felt flowers out with the Cuttlebug machine. That is the only way to do them and get nice clean cuts. It costs about $80, but with a coupon at Michaels it's cheaper. The dies are anywhere from about $10 to 15.
Rita...the little 'things' are available at Michaels also.
When I started making them I called them Croc-a-doo-dads and Flamingo embellished the name a bit and now they are called Croc-a-doodle-doo-dads! LOL
Alot of people really think Crocs are ugly so these little doo dads cute them up a bit!

Nope, not selling them on Ebay. I've made them and given most of them away.
I have sold some for $4 a pair tho.
If I had to make them to sell it wouldn't be any fun anymore.
They really do seem to change the looks of the Crocs.
