You can't unring a bell

A saying I found a long time ago and it always sticks with me:
"Be calm. Be strong. Be grateful."

The golden rule - Do unto others as you would have them do unto you.

Even this will pass (the worst situation won't go on forever).
Ten years from now you'll laugh about this- so why not start now?
Never put yourself down- someone else will do it for you, and they'll be easier to ignore.
Don't worry what "everyone else" is thinking- they don't do it very often.

Buck it up and move on......Learn from your mistakes.

Wherever you go, there you are.

Oh, Lord, yeah! I'm always spoutin' out some kind of crap! LOL

One is from my grandma, "The first hundred years are the worst." LOL

Another one is an original, when people are having family/kid problems, etc., I always say (and believe) "There ain't any Ward and June anymore...."

I tell college girls "Never let a guy distract you from your dreams". My pastor's wife heard me say that and said "What if the guy supports your dreams?". I said that is fine as long as he supports the dream. This discussion came up because a young woman in our church is a college freshman and plans to go to med school and become a pediatrician. Her mom is hoping that she doesn't get in a serious romance too soon and give up her dream.

I often say to other mothers, younger and newer to it than me, who are trying to do everything "right:" Lower your standards, but not your values. And know the difference.

Someone once told DS#2 "If life was fair there would be no wheelchairs." He must have been 8-9 at the time. But he answered "If life was fair, I guess everyone would need a wheelchair." He has a reputation for seeing things differently.

I tell DH "Will it matter a week from now?" b/c he tends to worry to excess about things that don't matter.

My dear grandmother always said,"There's nobody better than you" and that is what I have always told my kids and grands.

Grandma used to say, "Don't cross bridges till you get there".

My boss once said, "Treat others like you'd like to be treated". That was good a couple of thousand years ago - and still works.

I like a variation on another, "God likes to help those who are helping others".

Dad used to say, "I want to leave my farm better than I found it". My variation is to replace "farm" with "community, country and world".

Good wishes for helping leave the world a better place than when you came to it.

When my DD got her first heartbreak as a teenager, she became very cynical about love. But when I asked her if she wished she had never fallen in love in the first place, she realized that she didn't regret the relationship, even though it didn't work out. She agreed, that "It's better to have loved and lost, than to have never loved at all."

These are really good, I need to remember some of these when I am having a bad week, like this week! I used to tell my son "The cream always rises to the top" and "Quitters never win and winners never quit". This was when he was in high school, and playing basketball, which he went on to get a full scholarship for. He told me later that those little sayings helped him. "Everything happens for a reason" is another one I still say, but sometimes that reason is hard to figure out.
