Amazon Prime

Can someone please tell me how to watch Amazon Prime on the tv; rather than my computer screen?

Please make it as simple as possible; I am quite illiterate with technical stuff.

I LOVE Amazon prime, but have really only taken advantage of free shipping on purchases because I just don't get this streaming stuff!!!

juellie, I think you have to have either a device attached to your TV that has the capability to view offerings from Amazon Prime, or you have to have a 'Smart' TV that has that capability built in.

I also subscribed to Amazon Prime, partly because I hoped to get their streaming video on my TV. But then, I realized that my LG DVD player (which is what gives me access to Vudu, NetFlix, YouTube, and other streaming video does not include Amazon Prime. So I think I am stuck and I think you are too, if your current setup doesn't provide the necessary access.

I'd love to find that I'm wrong, so I'm going to watch this thread carefully.

If you have a newer tv it will have a USB port on the side, front or back. You plug a USB cable into your computer, then into your tv and it will play your computer thru the tv. If you have a Radio Shack close by you can go ask them, they are very savy on these things. They helped me get the stuff I needed to be able to hook up my ear buds to my tv and it did not have a jack built into the tv for them.

Amazon Prime "A Very English Scandal"

I watched a movie with Rebel Wilson the other night called "Isn't It Romantic." It was a spoof on romantic comedies, albeit not a very good one. Part of the appeal of the movie would have been the leading lady's sarcastic jokes about work, dating and her life. But honestly, I could not understand her most of the time, it's like she didn't want to extend the effort to enunciate. I've watched other Australian movies and programs before and had no problems. My biggest problem with hearing is the sound seems to be uneven. To have it loud enough to hear some characters, others are too loud, and then the reverse. Regular tv with commercials is the worst. Unless you are constantly working the mute button, it's not fun. Fast paced comedies with a lot of word play are the worst. I love "Modern Family" but I can never seem to find the sweet spot in the volume for that one. What is "A Very English Scandal" about? I like Hugh Grant as an actor, although maybe not a guy I'd love to have a pint with down the pub. He is quite "mannered" in his delivery, but many good actors have that feature, not necessarily bad but he sure was typecast for many years . . . I never liked most of the stammering twits he played in those romantic movies . . . He's the perfect character in that movie "Small Time Crooks" with Woody Allen and Tracey Ullman. Now there's a Brit I never have trouble understanding no matter what dialect she is using . . .

I finally 'discovered' Amazon Prime

I order from Amazon a lot. I used to use it only for the quick shipping but I recently started occasionally using Prime Video. Sometimes I'll order from Walmart(dot)com. Usually I can do better there when ordering non-perishable grocery items. I'm on a budget so I compare prices. If it costs more to order online than walking into Walmart, I walk into Walmart and get it. Paying more for the convenience, or having to tip for a Walmart grocery delivery, doesn't fit into my budget. I'd love it if Amazon would extent Amazon Fresh into my area. I was hoping the pandemic would nudge them into it but it has not. Amazon prices (even when sold by Amazon) can vary anywhere from a really good deal to an absolute ripoff so I sometimes make use of the 3 camel Firefox addon to notify me when an Amazon listing drops to the price point I specify: https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/the-camelizer-price-history-ch/ When/if Walmart finally goes back up 24 hours, I'll likely return to my old routine. Shop often, just getting a handful of items, whatever looks good at the time. Late at night they were never busy. This town is rat-racy right up until... 10 PM or so but then it's dead, which I love.

A word on Thermaworks: Yes, they warn against buying from Amazon or eBay, etc. But if you follow the Serious Eats link, they link to Thermaworks, NOT Amazon. And while the price in the article says $99 for the thermapen, when you actually click on it the 48 hour price is $74.24, which is a good price if you think thermapens live up to the hype. Which I don’t. I’m on my second, I do use it near daily and what can I say, they’re a digital thermometer. They’re accurate but 3 seconds is BS. Good but nothing special. Now the Smoke, that I love. Use it in the oven more than my grill. Just the other day I suggested to my wife that we buy one for her parents for Christmas and she agreed. So than you Sushi, you just saved me 25 bucks.

I admit watching good TV is one of my favorite hobbies, and I look forward to checking out these recommendations. I second Episodes with Matt Lablanc. I also loved Enlightened on HBO with Laura Dern, quirky character and heartwarming. I also enjoyed Jimmy Carter Rock n Roll President on Netflix (I'm a Georgian) and the documentary Crip Camp, a great story about birth of disability rights movement.

You need to get Roku. That will solve your problem.

Here is a link that might be useful: roku

I have a registered Roku and have no problems watching free Amazon Prime Videos on it, along with Netflix videos as well.

Thanks everyone! I have not looked at dedtired's link yet, but is the Roku wireless? I would think so in this day & age, but again, I'm illiterate as far as techno stuff goes! Sad.

Juellie, the Roku connects to your TV and wirelessly to your router. Don't think you even need a computer to use it but I could be wrong.

I stream via Roku in the living room, and recently added a new streaming device for the kitchen TV: a refurbished Sony Blu-Ray player. As with the Roku, I can play Pandora through it and a bunch of other stuff in addition to Netflix. It's rather small, and my son mounted it under the butcher block so it's invisible. I got it from Newegg.com for $39 and free shipping.
