Anyone Use Cup Pulls on Your Pull Out Trash
Comments (8)I was going to ask this same question today! Great minds..... ;) Anywho, I'm not concerned with the "messy" hands- I plan to use a bin pull on the trash cabinet. But, I am also wondering if I can use the same pulls on dishwasher drawers and refrigerator drawers (obviously, I plan to use panels on these appliances, hence the need for hardware). Anyone have this? I want to keep the hardware styles to a minimum.... of 2 to be exact. Bin pulls on the drawers, knobs on the doors....See MoreWill knobs and pulls help me like my oak cabinets? What size?
Comments (30)I came across this post and just wanted to add that in our old house, we had the cheapest of cheap builder grade 80's oak cabinets that were a terrible shade of orangish. DH, like a lot of men, has an issue with painting "the wood!" "You'll never get the same finish!" Well, actually, yes you can as long as you use a good oil based paint. But anyway...so we comprimised and picked up some "Liquid Sandpaper" from Home Depot or Lowes (can't remember which). You put it on with a rag, wait a bit, and then you can apply a new stain--though it should be darker or brighter (cherry) to cover whats there. It works by opening up the surface and allows the stain to penetrate into the finish...then after 2 hours it "closes" back up and holds in the stain. It took us all of a night to do the entire kitchen. We took the doors off and all the hardware of course to get the best finish on the door fronts. Total cost...about 30.00 with plenty of leftover product. And we too had what looked like "wood paper" on the sides of the cabinets but it took the stain just as well as other areas. I believe thats because the stain doesn't actually get all the way down to the wood, but rather gets encased just under the top coat. But I'm not sure, because it certainly looked like the cabinets had always been the new color--the wood grain was apparent and the finish retained a beautiful shine after. I'm not saying its necessarily a permanent fix but the ease and inexpense created instant gratification. And in our new house when we remodeled the kitchen...it was off-white cabinets or else! :) They are just so timeless......See MoreCabinet hardware-do you mix pulls w/ knobs?
Comments (24)I am close to getting our pulls figured out. I ordered a few samples of my favorites, and narrowed it down; then it was to decide on sizes. I'm trying them out on our existing cabinets, but the style of the new ones won't be terribly different, so it should work out. We have lived without door hardware for 25 years, so putting anything on the doors looks odd to us. I'm still torn between vertical and horizontal on my uppers. I've gone through a lot of 2-sided tape, sticking pulls to doors! I'm going horizontal on the few base cabinet doors that I have - trash pullout, sink cab, lazy susan door, and that seems right to me, so I can't figure why it doesn't quite look right on the uppers. I have one drawer stack that's 34" wide; the top will be 2 17"-wide drawers, so I'm putting two pulls each on the deep drawers. I'm torn between putting one or two pulls on the sink tip-out (30" cabinet)....See Morecup pulls mixed w/ bar pulls??
Comments (5)We have chosen knobs for the doors and pulls for the drawers. My husband was really 'pulling' for all knobs so he'd only have to drill one hole rather than centering multiple holes and matching them up later if I switch pulls. I won this one because I found pulls cooler than what I saw originally and they were VERY inexpensive and very heavy. I like the look of mixing them up to draw your attention to the differences. Choosing all the same style makes them all blend together and looks too 'matchy-matchy' for my taste. I think you will like having different style hardware; keeps it interesting. I matched the metal of ours to the sink & faucet so the total space looks unified, yet has enough variation to keep interest....See Moreredroze
