For me, it's that he doesn't listen. My husband has the worst selective hearing ever. It makes me insane. He will even ask a question, I'll answer him, then he'll ask the same question 10 minutes later because he didn't listen to my answer.

It's rude and irritating. His brain just never quits. He's always thinking about a million things at once and he can't process it all.

NOT listening, like so many others have already said!
The other day I told DH something when he asked. I told him not once, but at least 2 or 3 times, because he wasn't listening the first two times he was dumb enough to ask again! I am talking in a time frame of less than 5 minutes! The last time I got mad and raised my voice!! THEN he says "well excuse me" like I am a royal beotch. Well, if you'd bother to stop talking and start listening you'd have heard me the first time!

It depends on the man. My husband is very easy to live with......now. The first 20 years almost killed me.

The most annoying thing about him, is no matter what you say,
he says "What?" I know it comes from a lifetime of working around diesel engines. I don't know how noisy tow boats are...up in the wheelhouse, but when shrimping, you are standing over the engine room most of the day, in a steel boat. Even when he hears me, he says "what?" I usually say, "You heard me." and then he will go ahead and answer me.

It wears me out. I hate repeating everything over and sometimes, I'd just rather not talk than have to do that, so what I do if I really want to discuss something with him, I will say, "Listen, I want to tell you something." Then he will usually turn, look at me, and hear what I am saying.

My most recent model...accusing me of losing 'his' things.
real life example:
HIM "honey what did you do with my paycheck?"
ME "nothing"
HIM "you had to put it somewhere, it was right here"
ME "no, I didn't touch it"
(after both of us looking awhile...)
HIM "are you sure you didn't throw it away?"
ME "Umm, ????WHAT???"
(now repeat HIS last question 3 more times, a little more vocal and louder with each one...)
....
ME (sweetly) "yes, dear, I decided we really didn't need it and I THREW IT AWAY!" (not-so-sweet,now)

I quit looking after that and he eventually found in coat he wore the day before. No apology needed, really.

When they actually do something around the house, they make a huge deal of it. Example, DH "Did you notice how dirty that window had gotten? Well I cleaned it, doesn't it look better. It took me 15 minutes and two bottles of windex."
Me,"It looks better." He isn't through bragging on his work, 15 minutes later he repeats the whole conversation (if you can call it that).

The most annoying thing about my husband is that he doesn't put things back where they belong. It especially annoys me when they are my things, such as craft supplies, sewing scissors, gardening tools.

He evidently isn't going to change, so now when I look for something and it's not there, I just buy another one.

DH and I just had a "conversation" about him not listening. He said I was getting snippy in my responses to him and it was starting to irritate him. lol I told him I was getting extremely tired of repeating myself and it would be nice if he listened when I spoke to him. It's like I'm speaking a foreign language. His mind is going a million miles a minute constantly and it would be nice if he would just stop and actually concentrate on a conversation we are having. It annoys the heck out of me.

Here was this morning (good example)

Brody slept in. He's a baby. DH had to get him dressed and his formula/flouride before he goes to Nana's house for the day. I had to go to work and I leave before DH. I made the formula (we're in a sippy cup now) and put both cup and flouride on the couch for DH to give to him.

I called DH on the way to work.
Me: "DH, did you give Brody his flouride?"
DH: "No, I thought you did."
Me: "Brody was in bed when I left today. So, did you leave the flouride bottle on the couch? The dog will chew it up."
DH: "No, I put it on the counter."
Me: "You moved it to the counter but didn't give it to him?"
DH: "No, I only have 45 minutes to get Brody ready to go to Nana's house. It's REALLY HARD to deal with him all by myself."
Me: **Rolling eyes**

'Nuff said!

My DH is such a good guy, but somewhere along the way he has completely lost the ability to clean something. Last night I was doing the dishes and he came into the kitchen and said- Oh! We have ants! You need to clean this counter off! I just turned and looked at him and said the counter sponge is right there, you do it. He looked flustered and said but there is stuff on the counter (a glass and his juice mind you) so I said move them and clean up!

He walked out of the kitchen at this point, but when I was done (I left the counter) he walked right in to do it.

He has been doing this a lot recently. Pointing out things that need to be cleaned. I don't know why, but it is bugging me.

This is the easiest thing I'm going to hear all day. My DH is ALWAYS RIGHT. He was raised by a mother that thought he was w/o fault. Then he was a principal of a school where all the women worshipped him, and I do mean worship. So, w/ atteniton like that, how could he go wrong?

Well, I have to say that I'm married to a really great guy and really have no major complaints whatsoever.

However, I do get frustrated from time to time because he has strengths where I'm weak and vice versa. I'm good at reading people's behavior (like the kids) and I'm a creative type person. He on the other hand is a real steady, practical guy. He doesn't mind eating the same thing for breakfast every day or doing exactly the same thing day in and day out and that would make me crazy! So we try to just accept his other's weaknesses and strengths and that usually works out just fine

Now, having said that, I guess there is one little thing that he does that drives me bonkers, though. He is a pack rat!!! I can straighten out a closet and a few months later I'll go in and find it crammed with all kinds of crap! He and his brother are slowly filling up all the buildings on both of our farms!

Really, though, it's all good. But the question is to post or not to post this response because no telling what he will say about me! Ah, the drawbacks of both of us being KTers!

At this very moment, the fact that he is home.

"J----, where are you" no response again asked. "J----, where are you".."I'M RIGHT HERE" (caps on purpose to make a point) my response, "maybe physically" for me, guess what, that isn't enough...it really annoys me!

He's obviously not alone in not seeing things that need to be done. He must be a triplet of MissIndia's and Bigack's.

Doesn't do what he says he's gonna do (the list is pretty long at this point...), which should be to complete a (ANY?) project.

Most annoying......Doesn't listen/hear ( I hate to yell and repeat everything I say).Gets up from the table,goes to the sink,rinses out glass,plate,bowl,coffee cup,fills same with water and sits it on the cabinet!It infuriates me! LOL In the time it took to do that he could have washed it and put it in the dish drainer,then wouldn't have to pick it up and splash water all over the cabinet,or worse,me! Of course I should know by now there's water in the cup,but why can't he just sit it in the sink? I could go on but most of my complaints are petty considering he does do a lot of things for me around the house.All in all I have a pretty good DH.He doesn't drink,smoke or chase girls!LOL

Mine will throw away perfectly good stuff,and sometimes it's my stuff,without asking first if i need it,or do i want it for the goodwill bag.We're talking like clothes and shoes that are practically new,and stuff from my gardens.I can't get it through his head that there are needy people out there who would love to have what he throws out.He grew up poor as did i,so i don't know why he is like that.

The other thing he NEVER screws the tops back on the hot sauce,mayo,and stuff like that~~~~~~~~~~~Drives me crazy.

I was wondering the same thing, it surely must be genetic. My two chief complaints are the same as many of yours, he doesn't hear me (he wears hearing aids, but they are not tuned to MY voice) and he never sees anything that needs to be done. Makes a sandwich, leaves dirty knife, crumbs and what's leftover on the counter.........etc.

You might notice that I have been strangely silent about RadioGuy. Nuff said. Luv u dear!

All I can say is I feel so much better now.
I thought that my DH was the ONLY one who sits around and does nothing all day. He considers a few phone calls and some answered e-mails, a full day.
He sounds like the rest of your DH's because he NEVER hears anything I say, and then repeats himself and wonders why I get angry for having to say the same thing over again.
You're right lindyluwho.....can't live with 'em, can't shoot 'em.

Mine is a S-L-O-B. He thinks it is my job to pick up after him, and know where all his stuff is. He has been known to wake me from a sound sleep to ask me where something is.

When a man you could never have any interest in at all gives you gifts and a rose. Yuck. Happened to me today, and it's very unpleasant.

Annoying sayings. See my DH hates traffic. If we pull up to a corner and another car is coming he says "There's always one"! He is also hard of hearing and will say "Speak Up I can't hear You"!

Drives me nuts sometimes. Off to post on what I love about him

As for the pack rat comment....I'd just like to say that bigbaby is into dumpster diving just as much as my brother and I. She doesn't seem to mind it when she comes up with some wild idea and I have the materials on hand to (as Captain Picard would say) "Make it so."
As for the selective hearing comments so many of you made...
Perhaps it's a defense mechanism so they're able to tolerate the nagging. ;-)

In all honesty I think he could easily come up with many more annoying things about me than I could about him, that's why I knew it was dangerous to start throwing stones at him! I am seriously wild and wacked-out! Oh well, I gotta rattle his cage a little every now and then!

That he could take the dishwasher apart and put it back together... but he can't put a spoon inside it.

Reminds me of years ago, I was working full time w/ a commute - 2 teenage boys; ExDH, airline pilot, on days off, at home, did nothing to help. I once said to him, that I just didn't understand how he could keep 300 people aloft at 35,000 feet but could not put the mayonnaise away..................

My DH now is pretty much a neat freak, to the point of annoyance. He insists on letting hot water run while washing up a few dishes. The problem is that he doesn't get all of them clean so I have to put them in the dishwasher anyway :-( Our hot water is heated in the boiler with fuel oil and you know how expensive that is!! He just doesn't get it and I have given up trying to get an 81 year old man to change his evil ways.

Monie...you got that right! Mine hangs onto that remote like it's glued to his hand litterly. Sometimes he dozes of with it in his grip and his twitching fingers unknowingly changes the channel right in the middle of a show, numerous times. On the rare occasion that I have the remote, he gets huffy with me because I don't know what channel is where!

The other thing that gets me about this man is how the asthetics of arranging furniture and accessories in the house totally escape him, but with his vehicles and his garage and tools etc he is so picky it drives me nuts.

All of the above plus seldom flushes the toilet? Grrrrr!

Channel flipping,short attention span,thinks burps and farts are necessary to good health,can walk around,step over and totally ignore a bit of trash on the floor without ever thinking to pick it up, thinks any clean surface is to stack stuff on,doesn't know how to close or put things down gently or quietly.

Ah HA! I solved the Remote situation..... there are 2! and I have ONE of them!!! Dozing Guy doesn't get to choose what not to watch!!!!

Always losing things. The absolute worst happened about a year ago. He went to the bank, drew out $700 from savings. He came home with no cash and no passbook. Looked everywhere, in his pants pocket, jacket, etc. Then I drove over to the bank. Ran up to the teller window and said my husband had lost some money. She said yes and gave me the savings book and an envelope with the cash. She said the next customer found it just lying on the counter.

That they are a man. Ditto what Wildchild sai.

I thought that I liked women in general, but after reading this post, I'm not so sure. I now know that I don't understand women very well, and this is after a lifetime of living (or was that merely surviving). I've got to live a few more years to learn more.

If he objects ... tell him that you've asked him nicely (and somewhat less so) several times, and it didn't have any noticeable effect ...

It sounds like you are reading my mind ~ giggle ~ If you asked me this question a few months after I was first married, I would have said leaving the seat up on the toilet. I finally broke him from that one. In addition to what irritates other, I would add, (That is my story and I am sticking to it.) He never does anything  I guess somebody broke in here and did it. Hahahaha This is a cute thread.
