Painting vs. Re-Sheetrocking Ceiling Leak

Our new bathtub/shower was not happy in its original position and decided to wiggle a bit (I refuse to believe that the somewhat "fluffy" nature of this poster caused any movement at all). A natural consequence of this movement was a water leak in our first floor ceiling. After many visits from the GC to put additional support under the tub and re-grout, I think it's finally satisfied with its placement.

Now I'm left with a 2' ugly spot in my ceiling. It's discolored, cracked and the paint has pealed off about 4" in both directions. My GC has stated that he can just re-paint it. Should I push him to re-sheetrock and then paint? It was squishy to the touch at the time it happened, but has since dried out. I'm concerned that he'll paint and then the crack in the middle will just reappear.

From reading previous posts, it looks like I should at least insist that he use a good primer such as Kilz before painting to prevent any bleeding.
