have you guys heard of a reflective mulching product called Brite'Nup?? what do u think of this product?? would i be able to lay down some tin foil on my planter to achieve the same results?? does tin foil pose any health risk to the soil if i add it??

If we read the original post, you'll see that rashomon is not allowed to put up anything that will provide shade on the FIRE ESCAPE (this is not a patio or porch). Double potting is truly the best bet. You could even use something like vermiculite or bubble wrap as an insulator between the two pots. If you water thoroughly in the evening or early morning, your plants will have the time to take as much water as possible into their little plant bodies before the heat of the day commences. If the containers are relatively small, you may need to water twice a day. Watering is a beneficial practice for plants...not only does it provide the required H2O, but flushes the soil with a new supply of fresh oxygen. I respectfully disagree that you should keep a full water tray under your plants at all times. If you do anything to create a water-logged situation, then roots begin to die right away. Then your plant is really in trouble. Plant trays should be emptied a short time after they fill up following a good drenching. Hopefully, you are using a soil-less potting mix (peat based) and is porous and well-drained. Avoid adding sand, clay, compost, or anything like that to a container as those ingredients clog up the small pores in the soil system that ought to be filled with water and air.

I drop my celery stalk into a bread bag - it seems to keep well for quite a while in the fridge. I use stainless steel scratch pads, which last a long time. Though I'm not heavy duty into cooking, I do tend to put porridge, stew or something else into a pot to cook, then go off to do something else and just wake up to the cooking when the burning smell permeates the area. So my scratch pads do tend to get a workout fairly frequently - but they deteriorate from wear, not rust. Good wishes for good health, friends and happiness - I rather think that happiness comes as a byproduct when one is busily doing things that one loves and spending time with friends. When one seeks it for its own sake, I think that it's rather elusive. joyful guy

Depending on the wick size you use, a five wick candle mold could be rather large. That said, you can make a candle mold out of just about anything that 1) won't melt or break when you fill it with 180 degree wax and 2) if it's to be a pillar, you can get the candle out. Milk cartons and coffee cans work, but foil might be a light weight.
