Calling Alexa !!!!!

Alexa, when we were at your place for lunch ( Woodie, David and I) you served a lovely salad that was perfect for Fall weather. I am sure I had the recipe but darned if I can find it.

...I recall cranberries and pears and mixed greens but am stymied after that.

If anyone else has the recipe that would be good too!

Alexa

Autumn Salad with Cranberry Vinaigrette

1/2 cup chopped walnuts
1/4 cup cranberries
1/4 cup balsamic vinegar
1 cup red onion, chopped
1 tablespoon Maple Syrup, Brown Sugar or Honey
1 tablespoon Dijon-style prepared mustard
1 cup vegetable oil
salt and pepper to taste
10 cups mixed salad greens, rinsed and dried
2 Anjou Pears, cored and thinly sliced

Toast the walnuts for 8 to 10 minutes in a 350F oven, or until lightly toasted.

In a food processor, combine the cranberries, vinegar, onion, syrup, and mustard. Puree until smooth; gradually add oil, and season with salt and pepper.

In a salad bowl, toss together the greens, pears, and enough of the cranberry mixture to coat. Sprinkle with walnuts, and serve.

Note: Also great with crumbled Gorgonzola

Hi Janie, I spoke with Graber today and it is basically like I thought I would find. They do not have a complete stand alone program that will integrate with a Google Home or Alexa. The way that it works is you need to use a home automation controller like one from SmartThings. The motorized shades from Graber that have the Virtual Cord Control are what you need because they have the Z-Wave technology that can communicate with the SmartThings controller or one of several other controllers. I asked if they had a set up guide to walk someone through the process of setting this up. They said they do but that it is generic because the technology is always advancing. If this is something you are still interested in, I can send you a copy of the file they are sending to me. I don't know how complete it is going to be yet. If you just want motorized shades, they are available from Graber or Hunter Douglas but if you want to use your voice to control them it is getting just a little bit more complicated. But it does sound cool!! One thing to keep in mind with doing these things is that they operate on wi-fi and how well they operate depends on how well the signal travels through your home. Mike

My brother has a Sonos which runs off his phone and the sound is amazing. While they were here on Good Friday we were discussing it, and I found a Sonos One for sale on an online group. It has a built-in Alexa. I bought it and tried to hook it up using my computer. Apparently this was able to do, until just a couple of months ago. Now the company only do setup using a phone. I tried downloading the app and it won't install. I put it up for sale and a buyer is coming later today. This is becoming more frustrating than it's worth just to listen to music. Obviously I need to upgrade my phone, which I still might do, as long as I get the Google Home or Mini at a great price to offset the cost of the phone.

For crying out loud, I just created an account with Spotify and at the end it told me I have to have a Premium account to use Spotify with Alexa. Yet spotify was one of the ones to choose. I'm getting frustrated. The Alexa App has Amazon Music as it's default music source, which is why I realize Alexa can't find any music that I request, since I don't have Amazon Prime. I have to figure out how to install streaming sites via url, and I'm not sure how to do that.

I want an Alexa just so that I can bug her with questions like my kids used to bug me. It was probably someone of their generation that designed her. I know she isn't real but there would probably be some sort of sense of satisfaction out of bothering her.

I still have that Martini Mayhem headache!

(I mostly remember "somebody" screaming from the backseat of a taxi going down 42nd Street "there's my bank"!)

(Oh and I also mostly remember the Naked Cowboy pic.)

I loved Woodies little kielbasa snacks and all the other great food we had at the sleepover! What a blast that was :-)

I remember all of your stories from that get-together! Made me sad that I missed such a fun party! LOL

Definitely saving that salad recipe, tho...YUM! I love pears in salads and this one sounds delish!
