What color for 2 story entryway?

I have been tossing about colors for 2 yrs now and really can't stand the builders flat paint anymore so I need to make a decision. I love color and am afraid of neutrals as they seem like the lack of color to me...boring. I hate tans and all those shades of neutral.

I have a lot of color in my downstairs already, all of which can be seen form all angles, including the entryway. The entry way is 2 story with a full 2 story wall going up the stairs.

My LR is colonial blue (benjamin moore, kind of a slate grey/blue), my DR is Summer pudding (laura ashley, I think) and my kitchen is Old gold 6 (also Laura Ashley).

Do I have to go neutral in the entry way? What color would tie the others together? Thanks for any help!

In case it helps, I love french country and the rich colors of the rooster themes and prints.

I'll take a crack at this. You can do any color you want, of course. BUT when you go to sell the house, the real estate folks will most likely insist it be in a neutral. Two-story walls are hard to paint. So do you want to paint them twice? Or only once?

I painted my entry (was off-white) a golden tan only a couple of years ago. Because it's two stories over a staircase in places, it was a horrid job. Now I am redoing my entry because of changes I've made, and frankly, I'm bored with that color. I'm painting it a flat pale brown, kind of coacoa au lait, with white wainscoting. Flat paint. Satin on the wainscoting. Why? Because I'm no spring chicken and I don't want to have to do it again in a few years to sell the house. Touchup will be enough work, thank you. Besides, I think it looks sophisticated.

When I moved out of my last house it took me three months of work to turn it into "perfect for the market" because I'd put so much of myself into it. It was so not fun.

So if you don't mind doing it twice, and/or you're going to live there a long time, go for it with whatever color you like. Otherwise, you might want to consider resale on the tougher paint jobs and "do your thang" on the easier paint jobs, eh?

How about a green? Laura Ashley Moss #5 might work well with your other choices .....

That color your friend suggested is very pretty. You could certainly try that. Since you mention your furniture is reddish this might be a better option than a rust red wall, but I can't really say. You should choose a color that really appeals to you. Is there a certain color that shows up often in your wardrobe? That might be something to consider. You should certainly start out with doing just the wall and see how that looks. If you feel happy with that don't go any further. This is your home and you have to love it. Don't worry about accessorizing. Even just a few pillows and a throw can make that color look integrated. You can always visit here again and get advice after the wall is painted. I can't wait to see the result!

Your problem with getting good feedback is going to be that you're starting this process without properly introducing people to the surrounding site. We have only a snippet of information ... more or less a theoretical house front. Not a complete front yard or a driveway or even a good picture that shows the land/house relationship. As it is, every solution offered is already limited by your own preconceived notions, which limit what you show us. We've been here before and didn't come to a conclusion that you got excited. The set-up now is little different. Whatever you do architecturally, outside of changing the main entrance to the basement floor, will make no difference insofar as solving the problem, which has not yet been clearly identified (the path from parking-to-front-door problem.) No one can investigate how changing the approach to the house might work toward solving your problem. Most other threads on the forum seem to reach a more or less successful conclusion because they involve a little planting or a simple problem. Here, the problem is much more complex, but the base information is threadbare. Like a newspaper that starts with the front page headlines, and then goes to article titles, and then on to elaboration of details, is how you should be presenting information. We should see the whole front yard at a distance, some sequential pictures that show the present approach, some wide span scenes (from slightly overlapping pictures) that show the area from at least 2, or maybe three different points of view, since there is topography involved. (Each point of view should be a complete scene ... not a disconnected picture.) A landscape architect could not assess and explore the issue with so little information to go on. I'm not trying to be a downer about your thread or issue, but trying to say if you want to be happy when you leave, you've got to produce enough information to work with.

You might post a pic of the wall with the window. On the wall above the door beneath the window, you could leave it blank, especially if you're adding anything to the wall to the right of the window (interior side of the window). What about something like this? I cut and paste within the context of a two stall plan with a one bedroom apartment along the back. The apartment was a bit convoluted, but left the entry bath and storage as is. I am assuming this was to give visitor access to the bathroom without going through the bedroom. And the kitchen was on the exterior back which buried the LR in the middle so I juggled that. I also think this is two small for a two car garage, I would want it several feet wider and deeper. I feel like this sort of reiterates your house, this also could be mostly glass along the lake view

We just finished painting our 2 story entry today which also includes the upstairs open hallway and downstairs hallway. I chose BM Bennington Gray, HC-82. It's not gray at all, but a lovely taupe color. Compliments a variety of wood tones. A neutral color made sense to me as every room in my house radiates off these hallways and like you, I have different colors in all those rooms.

Good Point on the "do you want to paint once or twice!" Since I will have to hire out the job as I do not have the equiptment to paint over and above 2 story stairs, I would like to do it once.

I was looking at some of the grey tones (seemed somehow less boring than tan). I like some of the grey/greens too. There is a lot of light in the entryway (front door is all window with sidelights and transom and there is a window at the stair landing.
