Restoration Hardware Leather Sofa
Comments (44)In today’s market place between online merchants and local furniture stores you can find almost anything you are searching for. There is a fine line to finding quality leather furniture at a price most can afford. RH gets tons of attention because of their large marketing budget and many retail locations but as you can see by this thread there are many other alternatives to their styles and leather color selection. 8-way hand tied, solid hardwood frame and premium leather are a must when searching for quality leather furniture. Furniture products made in America are much higher quality and you should expect them to last longer than the same looking products made off shore (China). As you can see in viewing this thread, there are so many other options to the same looking RH designs. Comfort and good quality are the bottom line at a price we can afford. Materials used, country of origin and your leather choice will dictate your price point. Before you buy leather furniture anywhere, take a few minutes and get educated about your purchase. Comments (6)RAF does dissolve the finish slightly, according to an expert on Woodworking Forum, also has some colorant and probably a mineral oil (polish). He says it starts looking dull again a month or so later (until you polish it again). I've never used it, you'd have to ask people here who have. If you find an antique table on CL and don't know how to restore the finish (please don't *refinish* it unless it's hopeless!), then find a pro who can. I can't see that RAF would damage a piece, but if you want to restore the finish to get rid of the scratches then it's best to use the solvent for the original finish (e.g., denatured alcohol for shellac) and/or build the finish (pad on more shellac, or brush/spray on more lacquer - either will have enough solvent in it to dissolve the very top of the old finish *if* the scratches are just in the finish). Comments (10)You like the way they look? You like the way they feel under your fingers as you open doors and drawers with them? Are they well made? Then why not choose the ones from Ikea? Restoration Hardware is just a name, and fortunately they don't stamp RH on their knobs so everyone will know that's where you bought them, or didn't as the case may be. Morality tale: when my son was 4, he invited the kids from preschool to his birthday party. This was before the days of hiring ponies and bands for little kids' birthday parties. His friends brought him the usual assortment of gifts; among the gifts was one of those little cars that you pull back and they zoom forward. He really loved that car. I asked the mom where she found it (it worked really well), and she was embarrassed because it cost less that $1. Less than $1 or more than $10, it made no difference to a 4 year old. The car worked well and was fun, which is, of course, the point of a birthday present. Moral of the story: love your choice of knobs and pulls for the function and look you want in your new kitchen (which is the point of the merchandise), not for the branding....See Moretalk to me about honed uba tuba vs soapstone
Comments (8)OK thanks, you have convinced me to make time to go see the soapstone, it is 2 hrs each way so half a day . Not easy for someone working FT with weekend obligations. The money is not as much an issue as the availablity and the time here. I was really hoping to find the soapstone locally since today was my only "search granite yards" vacation day. Can someone answer the questions about the uba tuba? It's really very smooth and the 2nd picture was very surprising to me since I cannot feel or even see those irregularities well in real life....See Morenanjean68
