Flavoring my root vegetable soup

I made some roasted root vegetable soup (celeriac, sweet potato, turnip, carrot, parsnip and butternut squash). It's good but seems to be lacking something. There is onion and celery that I browned in some butter and then stock added and simmered with the root vegetables once roasted. Salt and pepper were the only spices called for. It's not terribly bland but it does mostly taste like pureed vegetables. Any suggestions for another spice? I have huge amount left over since it was so thick and had to be thinned with an additional 2 litres of stock! So, I am open to a few ideas. Thanks. And yes, it got rejected by all other family members.
