Aside from sending them here? It's been a while, but I've done the thing where you take your favorite brownie recipe, put down half of the batter, lay the chocolate bars on, then cover with the rest of the batter. It works best to give a good layer of batter on bottom, since it doesn't matter so much if the tops of bars emerge through the top layer. You can use most any fun size bars, Snickers, Milkyway, reg chocolate, even Twix and such works. A bit hard to test the brownie with that in there, but just go by your regular timing and keep an eye on the edge for doneness. Maybe five minutes more than usual, or not. Smiles.

Any Heath bars that come home I immediately set aside for cookies or any number of recipes that use them. By Wednesday, the leftover Snickers, Milky Ways, etc are in the freezer and by next weekend anything that is left is in the trash. I used to let them "save" stuff as long as they wanted, then I discovered Halloween candy in the treat drawer one Easter. That was the end of that.

coconut NJ has a great idea with the brownies. In fact I have a pan cooling right now with 1/2 peppermint patties and half mini Hershey bars.

You can also chop them up and make candy cookies from the tollhouse recipe. Just replace the cc with chopped candy.

Just freeze them and pull them out for next year.

We have been doing that for years and there isn't much, if any, degradation to chocolate bars and none at all to suckers, etc.

The term chocolate bar is pretty much a misnomer now anyway, they are candy bars with the appearance and sort of the taste of chocolate.

Donate them to a local food pantry.

Send them to troops overseas. They use them both for themselves and as they build relationships with local kids.

Here, certain dentists are buying them for $1 a lb and sending the candy to our soldiers.

Glenda al is right. I saw the story on World News with Diane Sawyer last week, so I looked up the website. At the upper right corner you can put in your zip code to find which dentists in your area are participating. I love this idea!!

Thanks for the responses. I saw that piece, too, but I had not heard that any local dentists were participating. Empress, thank you for providing the link. I discovered there is one nearby and I'm going to donate all these chocolate bars.

A local dentist here in Albuquerque, NM started a trend that now other local dentists here do: kids can bring in their stash of Halloween candy collected to the dental offices to have it weighed & they are paid $1 a pound for it (and fewer cavities & excess pounds to boot!)& the dentists then send the candy overseas to our veterans!

I cut them into halves or thirds and make "surprise" cookies out of them, just wrap a chunk with some cookie dough and bake.

Snickers bars can be used with apples for a kind of salad, although it's really a lot more like dessert.

I like the idea of sending them to the troops, though.

Thanks so much for the heads up.... I just put the kids "haul" on the bathroom scale for a rough estimate, they have 23lbs of candy..... Holy dear God - I certainly dont want that hanging about here and tossing it is SUCH a waste!

I posted the dentist link on my Facebook...what a great idea!

However, ours will probably go to the shelter for battered women and their children here in town. They have multiple fridges and freezers and take all sorts of things to save for use, including by the way, any excess produce/orchard fruit that would go to waste. I'm sure there are such shelters in many of our communities.

Not to be holier-than-anyone-else, though.........likely, we'll eat our share!!!! :D

I have recipes for a Milky Way cake and a Snickers cake, if anyone wants them, just holler!

Here's a fun idea from a blog called Chocolate and Carrots for using up that leftover Halloween candy. We don't have any, since we live remotely with no trick-or-treaters. But it's creative!
