Nothing fancy, but if I eat dinner at all, I set plates, glasses, cutlery and napkins without fail. Always in the dining room, and even though there are only two of us now. It's a routine of ours.

Yes, with tablecloth, cloth napkins, proper cutlery and dishes for what we're having. My husband has a stressful job and I work on the farm all day, so dinner is our time to relax and talk.

Well, we always set the table and eat from real dishes and flatware (not plastic or paper). That's my doing. Everyone else would rather eat in front of the television, but I'm the only one who likes to cook, and I tell them they won't get to eat the food I've prepared if they can't sit at the table and carry on a conversation.:)

I can't remember the last time we did that. Even for a holiday. Nightly dinners are usually so rushed. We are just casual people I guess. :)

We eat in the dining room most nights with proper table settings, but no tablecloth or fabric napkins. (We use paper napkins) If we have pizza we eat in front of the tv, but that's the only dinner meal we eat away from the dining room.

In fact, we often/most every night sit at the kitchen counter to eat.

But when someone joins us for dinner/supper, we eat at the table. Another but... even then, we most often serve ourselves from the pots on the stove.

Ever once in a while we have the table all decked out nice.

I'm pretty sure I haven't sat down for a meal in exactly 23 months. I ate standing at the kitchen island last night. DH sat on one of the bar stools, Brody sat on the other.

Only if I have company. When DS was growing up we always ate at the table. I used to enjoy having a table cloth and setting the places.

When my kids were home, we'd ALWAYS eat at the table; always set the table and served the food in serving bowls. Now that' it's just dh and I, we ususally sit at the counter. I really really miss those family suppers; always had such good conversation! Now we stare at a tv; not good!!

I'm the only one who actually likes to sit at the table to eat. I have to coax DH to sit at the table. Setting a nice table would be a waste of time. DH has gone on a diet different from mine so we eat separately much of the time. The one positive thing is he does eat at the table for now instead of in front of the tv. I visit with him while he eats sometimes. I prefer to eat alone. I tend to eat faster and more when I am talking to someone.

99.9% of the time I set the table with plates, bowls, flatware, water glasses, tea cups, napkins, etc.

I serve the plates from the stove and set them on the table. I set the flatware "formally," depending on what foods we're having. I love using bread and butter plates and individual butter spreaders. I like putting lemon slices in the water, too.

My Home Ec teacher from long ago, Mrs. Mason, would be so proud! LOL

Once a month, or less, we'll get a movie, set up dinner trays and eat in the TV room.

I keep a cloth (plastic right now) on the table at all times and we use paper napkins.

Even when I'm alone I prefer to eat at the table.

DH and I sit at the table in the 'breakfast' room for all our meals. No table cloth; placemats. No silver; stainless utensils. No crystal; glass. Large size paper napkins. Some greenery or flowers. I bring warmed plates to the table from the cooktop at dinner; no serving dishes.

We are big talkers, but yes, we watch the news. There's a small TV on the buffet. We are both retired. There's plenty of conversation all through the day.

We have never set the table to eat. If we're both home, we eat at the kitchen counter. That depends on our work shifts. Otherwise if I'm by myself, I eat in front of the computer while working.

DH and I usually eat in the den, in front of the TV. When the kids and grands are here we always eat at the table. The kitchen table, usually. We don't use the dining room much at all. In my next house, i do not want a formal dining room. I do like to use cloth tablecloth and napkins, even at the kitchen table. But I do not have any fancy china, silver or crystal. I DO have GOOD everyday stuff and BETTER everyday stuff. Haha. Nothing fancy around here.

I have the dishes and the pretties but havn't set a real table for years. For me it is sitting on the couch with my tray on the bench in front of me. I would if my dining area were more formal MAYBE

When the kids were little, I won't say I set a "nice table," but I did put the food in serving dishes and we sat and ate in the dining room. Kids are gone, and so are the serving dishes. We serve ourselves in the kitchen, sometimes from the pans.

I think it is very important to sit down to dinner with kids in the evening, it's family time. But now I don't care, just feel glad to get some food ready for dinner. I like to eat early so I can get the dishes done and relax and enjoy the evening.

We set the table (china, silver, glass/crystal sometimes paper and sometimes fabric napkins) for breakfast and supper. Usually I put the food on the table, but some things are just easier served from the stove. I set/serve, DH clears and stacks the dishes in the sink. At breakfast he reads portions of the paper to me, and in the evening we yak about our day. It is very nice!

We don't unless there are guests for dinner. We eat straight from the pans. My kitchen crew (Harry) appreciates it.

We mostly eat in the living room in front of the TV. I make attempts to get DH to sit in the breakfast room or even at the island, but he never wants to. We did sit at the dining room table when the kids were home. Great place to find out what's going on in their lives. Now we only use the dining room when we have company (kids now count as company as far as meals are concerned). I keep the dining room table set with a cloth table cloth, flower arrangement and sometimes seasonal plates, etc.

When I started living alone about 8 years ago, I discovered how much fun it can be to eat meals in the living room. If I eat in the dining room, I have to turn the TV in order to see it. My dining room has a bay window that overlooks my backyard. Nothing interesting to see out there. If I eat in the living room, I can watch TV or just see out the bay window there. There always seems to be someone walking their dogs or out for a run.

When I get home from work any table that my wife has set up with food on it is a NICE table!!!

We always had a cloth on the table,good dishes and silverware and everyone sat at the table to eat when the kids were all at home.Now we just eat out of paper plates,served from the pan the food was cooked in on the stove and eat on TV trays in the living room.
I told DS and DDIL just a few days ago that we need to start eating at the dining table like real people since the twins are getting older.They need to start learning some manners! The spaghetti in the hair thing isn't going to work in a public restraunt!LOL
When the family is together,especially for holidays we always set the table and eat there but usually buffet style.

I guess I should've said we eat on PLATES with the food straight from the pans ;-)

I wouldn't say we set a "nice" table, either, but we do eat at the dining table. Sometimes, if there isn't room on the table for everything, I might serve a course from the stove, but everything else is in serving bowls and dishes. My daughter is 30 years old now, and has kids of her own, but I remember when she was a teenager, she would complain that none of her friends' families ate together, so why did we have to? She said most of her teenage friends fended for themselves. I told her that dinnertime was one of my favorite times of the day because that was our chance to come together and catch up on what everyone was doing. Once in a while, when one of her friends was there at dinnertime, I invited them to stay. Without fail, every one of them commented on how nice it was to sit down with a group of people and eat, and they confirmed that that was not how things were done at their house.

We always ate at the dining room table growing up, so guess that is the reason we have been doing it for the past 50 years. I love using my good china and setting a pretty table. When the kids were small I would set the table after clearing the breakfast dishes in the mornings. Love relaxing and talking at the dining room table. Most of the worlds problems are solved sitting at that table.
