My first question is What is your favorite color? You have excellent neutrals that could work with any color. If you love the cool gray green of Farrow and Ball's french gray I say go for that color. That is a color that can compliment many different colors from the gold warm tan drapes to a fire hot red chair or a deep green alligator. Go with what you like and you will be amazed that it works. If you think the Farrow and Ball French Gray is a little too green based you might consider another FB paint called Light also by FB French Gray FB Light by Farrow and Ball I like mixing cool and warm in different venues for drama. Obviously not all the colors but keeping it simple to two basic hues and working with them is ideal. You have one small wall behind your china cabinet that you could paint in a gold tan to match the drapes but the rest of the walls the Blue gray Farrow and ball you are thinking of would be perfect. I would say you have enough gray already, and with the floors you would be much better off with an ivory or off-white paint color. Gray has been terribly overused and is now a dead trend, even though not everyone is aware of that. By that I mean gray used to excess and with everything else in a gray/colorless range. It seems to be very easy to fall into that trap, but with off-white wall you'll be encouraged to introduce more warm, vital colors into your home. Your rug sounds a bit colorless also, but you won't know until you see it in situ. I would encourage you to think in terms of the whole color wheel, and using some warm colors to offset the cool to give your scheme more complexity and interest.

Yes, do what I did not do, pull the doors and then store them somewhere if you ever want to sell the house. IMHO, a round table, in front of the fireplace but moved out a bit so you can get around it, will look cozy and suit your daily needs. It's quite common in Victorian or European homes. You can expand when you have company. There's nothing wrong with people coming right into your house. You only open and close the door when they come and leave. The only thing to plan for is the dirt that will track in. With your hardwood floors, you're at an advantage compared to someone who had carpet. Here's a photo from the Pottery Barn web site. A little bit of a different suggestion. I love that upholstered bench, but I would float it where you have the fridge to create a "hallway" coming in like so, facing it into the room. Move your bureau to the wall by the window to use as a dining room buffet, Instead, get a narrow piece to hold gloves, hats, keys, etc. and add a mirror over it where you have the dresser now. For that wall, this look and function. Note the rug creating a pathway through the "hall." As for the middle of the room, place your table in the middle of the room. If you get a rectangular table, you could also slide your upholstered entry piece on one side for extra seating at the table. Get a unique knockout table and perhaps all different kinds of chairs. A beautiful big round table in the center would also look great in that space with contrasting dining chairs. Many round tables can be extended into oval tables for company. Round tables allow for better flow than angular ones. Check Craigslist for estate sales to find a beautiful oversized rug. With a runner in the entryway area you create and a larger centered rug for the dining furniture, that will direct foot traffic in the space. Dining room rugs must be wide enough so the dining chairs can glide over the rug entirely. A low-pile pattered rug would make the space inviting and a bit more formal. Get curtains for the window to dress up the room and frame the windows.
