Pics, pics, pics. I think I do know what you are trying to explain. My entry/stair/living/dining are all viewable together and it was hard to figure out the colors. I chose the dining room to be hunter green (you can see a sliver in the first pic on left side of room), the living is a red tone. I did the entry and stairway in a tan, kinda like latte. I have some recessed panels in the entry and stairway so I did them in the red. It really ties the rooms together. I chose a softer tan for the lower hall and upper hall so when you go upstairs or head down the hall in the entryway the color is more neutral and leads you gently to the other rooms which have other colors. You can see the upper and lower halls in the second pic.

if you are looking for a neutral, my walls are BM standish white~

My first question is What is your favorite color?

You have excellent neutrals that could work with any
color. If you love the cool gray green of Farrow and
Ball's french gray I say go for that color. That is a color
that can compliment many different colors from the
gold warm tan drapes to a fire hot red chair or a deep
green alligator. Go with what you like and you will be
amazed that it works.

If you think the Farrow and Ball French Gray is a little
too green based you might consider another FB paint

I like mixing cool and warm in different venues for drama.
Obviously not all the colors but keeping it simple to
two basic hues and working with them is ideal.

You have one small wall behind your china cabinet that
you could paint in a gold tan to match the drapes but the
rest of the walls the Blue gray Farrow and ball you are
thinking of would be perfect.

I don't typically think of putting gray and gold together, but I have seen it done and surprisingly it looks really pretty.

I live in a TH with a similar concept regarding open living. Just to give you an idea of what you may want to think about, here is how we figured out the painting using 2 different colors.

We have a small entry which is painted Teal ( BM Grenada Villa) The LR and DR are opposite each other (the walk into the FR separates them)and our stairwell are painted BM Sea Spray which is a goldish beige. We have a Teal accent wall in the DR and a Teal accent wall on the stairwell (the large wall of our landing),

I don't use paint colors that are most mentioned here. Paint colors should be picked based on your furnishings and perhaps something you are using in your home such as a rug, your drapes, or fabric.

Check out BM Seaspray. I think it will work with your drapes. I would also get a sample of the French Gray you like and see how they work together. I'm thinking the same concept I have. Maybe the French Gray will work for your entry.

Oh loribee, I love the picture of your room. It's got much of the feel I'm going for with mine. I especially love the leather chairs in front of the fireplace. Where did you find them?

Tanawa- Looking at the style of your furniture, the silver lighting, etc I think you could actually pull off the look using the greyish wallcolor. The pic showing French grey would look fabulous in your home IMO. I really, really like your drapes with your furniture so far. Not sure if you plan to hang them as shown but I would suggest a silver rod or more substantial wooden one and also maybe rings or even gromets to complete the look. Again, really like what you have going on. You may not be able to do the two tones on your walls but you could possibly use the light tan in the entry area and the grey tone in the dining area and living area only. Keep the tan on the flat part of the divider so that the tan stays within the entry and stairway.

You guys have great ideas!! Thanks for all the pics they really have the brain wheels working now. I would love the Valspar New Penny picture in the entry way with french gray in the dining/living areas- taking from Shannon's idea on splitting colors. Thoughts?

Shannon-I think you're right about the hardware. We were so eager to get the curtains up we bought the first rods we could find to fit the width of those windows.
