Canned Clams - multi part question

I just opened my first ever can of clams in order to make some special food for my sick kitty.

Are they cooked already? I'm cooking them anyway but do you?

They have some greenish smudge type things. Is that ok? Is that like what you find in an oyster sometimes?

I've always wanted to try clam chowder but have been waiting for that far away vacation to actually go there. If my cat won't eat them will they be suitable for chowder? Right now I'm just simmering them in their own juices. They don't smell fishy which was a surprise for me... yay!
