Photos! What color does my bathroom want to be?

Generally I have a vision from start to finish on my projects - and I thought I had a completed vision on this bathroom too - until it became time to paint and I've decided my paint choices are not going to be right. I was going to do Latte. Now I think not. I'm worried the coved ceilings will be too dark. The ceiling and walls must be the same color.

Because we'll have a lot of unfitted antique espresso hutches, a dark wood set of french doors (glass to be frosted), dark stained windows, medicine cabinets as well as the pocket door that will be painted espresso, I'm now thinking of doing BM white sand #964 on walls and ceiling with BM mascarpone # AF-20.

It is subtle but the rest of the bathroom isn't. I think these colors might make the bathroom floor and sconces pop. There are photos of my sink, etc.

That said, please take a look and make suggestions. Keep in mind this is a 1912 era house and the bathroom is quite large. The pair of windows are 6' wide.

Thanks in advance. I have spent too much money on sample jars and I'm still not sure.

I think a warm white is a good idea...there will be a lot going on in that room. I LOVE Mascarpone. I'm using it for my trim. I think it would be a good choice for your walls...there is so much else going on in there. If I were you, I'd get some of each color and paint big ol' swatches on the walls. Or get a couple of mighty boards and paint them up (SO much better than poster board.)

Best of luck. And, of course, the beauty of it is that it's just paint. If you get it up there and don't like it, you can always re-paint.

Oh, good. I know the floor looks really busy in my samples. It's going to really mellow out on the floor. I'll still have the red feature strip and there is nothing mellow about that. I just wanted to get the colors accurate for all to see and I have a good camera for close ups.

I was thinking I'd like to do a subtle difference for the trim and kind of match the trim to the color of the sink and claw foot tub.

I can re-paint but I have a bit of a problem with my painting arm so I'm hoping to get it right and move on to the next room. sigh.

Well now if you stop worrying about every little freaking thing, what happens to us??? We're unemployed ;-) I'm trying to picture your layout but honestly it isn't clear to me. Generally I like to see something other than a 50/50 split but there are other things that come into play - how does that 50/50 or 33/66 relate to the finished height of your vanity counters, to the windows (if any) either at sill or apron height. I like continuity, too and like to see some relation to other horizontal lines in a space - expecially a space like a bathroom. But that doesn't mean everything has to end at the same height, just that you need to put those other lines into the thought process so you don't end up with staggered and unrelated horizontal lines all through the space. I moved into a house with a “boys’” bathroom with similar dark colors, even though it also serves as the main guest bath. With glass tub/shower doors, I didn’t even have the option of adding color there. Instead I went with light teal/turquoise vanity accessories, towels, small rugs and several pieces of art on the walls. (For plenty of teal options, check out ‘beach’ themes at stores and in catalogs.) Until I can update the bath, these inexpensive additions helped a lot.

For anyone who might care how this turned out, I painted the bathroom and it's sooo much better! After many paint chips and a few days of moving Samplize swatches around, I decided on Krypton (SW 6247). It is slightly lighter than the previous color and a gray target than blue - but it flirts with a hint of blue within its gray, which ties the tiles and counter together regardless of whether we're using the cool lights, warm lights, natural light or a combination!

Well, I went ahead and bought new towels. I had been trying to match towels in various shades of pinks and greens and blues and corals in this room for so long, and finally decided to stop fighting to incorporate those specific colors and just go with a simple sand color instead. It works! Now the towels don't fight the artwork and vice versa, but sort of blend in better. I bought this painting from a Mercari seller today and will probably find a spot for it in this room. It's not very big, so should be easy to place.

Well, I certainly understand that. It's just so difficult to match colors on the internet...because monitors vary so. I still think you'd do well to paint some large samples (all the affinity colors are available in the little tester pots) and tape them to the walls. You should see the line-up I have in the front hall right now, trying to find the right color for IT.
