new blender......

Hey everyone. My cheap Hamilton Beach immersion blender broke last night. The shaft was plastic, and I was using it on a smoothie and it cracked. Since it wasn't dishwasher safe, I've never been happy with it anyway. I've always said I'd get a Kitchen Aid if my broke, so I did! I think that quite a few of you here have mentioned you have a Kitchen Aid too, so it's gotta be good. Since I don't have counter space to store a full sized blender, the immersion blender is my only blender so it's got to be a decent one. I still have to keep the old one because it has a whisk attachment that I use quite often for whipping cream and meringue (when there isn't enough quantity for the stand mixer). There is a Kitchen Aid that has the chopper and whisk attachment, but Target didn't have that model. I don't think I'll need 9 speeds (high and low are fine for me), but it should be fun. It makes me want to cook just to play with it!

Also got a new sifter... the old one was the kind with the squeeze handle and I have great disdain for those sifters. The new one has a measuring cup on the bottom for the flour or powdered sugar to go right into and even came with a fine mesh screen for dusting... which is good, because normally when trying to dust with the old sifter, the dust coating was too heavy and not evenly distributed. I know many of you here don't ever sift, but sometimes a recipe calls for it or the powdered sugar has lumps in it.

So, if you have the Kitchen Aid immersion blender, are there any quirks I should know about? If yours came with the chopper and whip accessories, are they worth having? They can be had separately for about 20 dollars a piece.

Have any of you gotten any new kitchen toys lately?

Thanks :O)
