How many people in your household? WE opted for a "love seat" vs a full couch, with two chairs. There really is no reason to have the seating arrangement FACE the fireplace. As long as it is view-able from the seating arrangement everyone will be able to enjoy a fire. What do you have in the way of a TV stand? Would anyone consider putting it up against the railing? Wonder if there is a way to make the back look tidy?

I'd center a sofa table under the window, with either some plants or lamps on it, and then push the sofa up against it. With all of those built-ins, you've got ideal toy storage, game storage, blanket storage, more than enough storage, and even better, it is behind doors. Once the couch is pushed back, you can experiment with the chairs, either flanking the fireplace, or flanking the couch. It's hard to tell what exactly will work best from the photos. Are those vertical blinds on the large window? We have a window very similar to that. Our home came with vertical blinds on the picture window that drove me bananas! We replaced the blinds with a single solar shade that rolls up and down with a chain; so much better! Our couch sits up against the window and we can now close the shades without climbing on the couch. (Pictures here.) You could do stationary curtain panels on each side of the windows. I like your paint and trim colors. It looks like you might be gravitating more toward lighter, brighter colors, so you could paint the built-ins white and lighten the space (the wood will be more forgiving of little ones, though...)

LOL @Flo Mangan yes for sure it’s scary in that picture!! IRL I’d not just leave it on in the dark by itself like that - just to show how tall the effect is (more gravitas to balance that built in)..... when the console lamps are on, the effect is quieter and didn’t photograph. Agree, about not filling every space. It starts to feel busy. I like it calm but don’t want it to look sparse. It is a good start and not sure when or how I will do more. You know how hard it is when you move and have a million things to do and get. I don’t think they are wrong about the console not being long enough, but just tossing it out and buying something new isn’t how I roll. It’s different and I like it. If you see the right pillows (or lamps for that matter), I’d love your input. If you see my inspiration photo in the original post, it’s a light room, and I don’t want to kill that mojo. Wish I had a decent camera to show that the room isn’t dark at all.

Hang a smaller mirror-they can be big and impressive enough, depending on the ceiling height of course..it will reflect whatever would be there to reflect, so if you don't want it to reflect you sitting-it needs to go in a different place)) (I made a mistake of putting shorter mirrors in the bathroom because didn't want them to reflect pendants' cords. guess what, they still reflect pendant cords)) Might as well have gone to the ceiling) I'd never put it on the floor knowing even myself and my family..and we've no toddlers at the moment. Just not worth that worry. Can you share the room itself? and point out where you want the mirror? Maybe we can come up with suggestions. They do enlarge the room, I had some very grand mirror in our previous place(left by previous owners). In the living room. It was placed on the wall perpendicular to windows, over the fireplace, Not only enlarged the small living, but added tons of light (which was not needed as the room got tons of light anyway, if not for blinds one could wear sunglasses in that house) Interesting idea to put it behind etageres, etageres should look very good though and one shouldn't mind seeing whatever's there doubled.
