'If You Weren't So Picky....

...about who gets your dogs those pups would have been gone a month ago" my husband said as we drove to Evanston this afternoon to deliver puppy number three to her new owner.

I was offended.

Does he truly think I should give these special puppies to just anyone?

I don't think so.

I listed them on KSL.com and sold two in one day AND I upped my price simply because I could not know personally anyone getting a puppy.

This couple fell in love with their puppy. They have sent me pictures already and they just picked her up at three this afternoon.

Another lady has sent the entire amount and wants me to hold hers, sight unseen, until a week from tomorrow. Her husband is a rodeo clown and he uses dogs in his acts. I don't know the people personally but I know of them.

That leaves one boy (Lou) and one girl (Chet) left to find a home for. I will place a new ad tomorrow, listing the last two.

As for those deposits I initially received I gave that money to the local humane/adoption center. I didn't feel right keeping it but I wasn't about to return the money. Nobody fools around about my puppies.

I will post new photos tomorrow.

They are hilarious.

The little girls fight dirty. The get Lou, the male down, and chew on his peepee and he cries and cries. The little Tuffy puppy who went today was the worst. The other girls are content with chewing on other's collars but Tuffy must have been a man hater or something...LOL

I have a gluten free bakery and jammery and sell at a farmers market. I don't use corn syrup, weird chemicals or artificial anything. Most of my customers have other allergies or intolerance's and I try to accommodate them for things like no sugar, dairy, eggs, nuts, soy, corn, and the like that are easily done and most times have enough of a variety of baked goods to offer each week that they can have something right now. If not they can special order things at no extra cost per item but with a minimum $ amount to cover my extra time and effort, but still a sure sale that will make them happy. And, I do tell my customers, if asked, which products are from organic sources (or naturally grown without the piles of paperwork for gov't approved label of Organic). But, some people are off the wall with their, IMO and perhaps perceived, allergies to things like nutmeg or baking soda and some ask if there are any fish or seafood in my jams, pickles, and baked goods that would never be there normally anyway! All the ingredients for each item are listed on the labels but people do not want to read, just converse. It's like they have to share their aversion to justify them to themselves so I give them "grandma" answers politely and know that sometimes they just want to share, be recognized, to connect. Lonely maybe? Seeking to be unique in a world too full of people? Small price to pay if they go on their way happily and have a positive experience even if I have just an "I'm sorry" answer and offer alternatives. To be rude to those people means I have not respected them and therefore have not been respected, something sorely lacking in this world today, and that affects how they pass that on. On another note - about celiac disease: a new cookbook called "Nosh on This" gluten free Jewish-American baking said that one teaspoon of gluten flour in a bathtub of gluten free flour was enough to cause distress to a celiac (paraphrased). It is a real disease that has probably been around 50 or maybe 1,000 years ago but identification of it for all its widely varied symptoms has occurred only in the last 20 years or so and then only by serologic testing &/or biopsy. It is not as serious or as life-threatening as diabetes, for example, but still as valid as high blood pressure or arthritis and can be controlled by going gluten free. It is real, ask Annie_1992 about her Amanda. I don't think people with the disease are demanding special treatment at a restaurant, they just want something that won't make them sick. They are not asking for ice cream at a burrito truck but they do know that gluten cross contamination, even inadvertently, can make them miserable and have to avoid eating out. I sympathize with them. I can't eat spicy food (I'm old and my digestive system is too) and my friends all want to go to Thai or Mexican restaurants. So, I scan their menus and always find something to eat, even if it means pushing around a salad. It is the company of friends that is enjoyable and memorable, not necessarily what is consumed and forgotten a week later. I also suspect that the person posting the original sign did so from frustration. As one of the other poster's said, in effect, don't go to a steak house and expect the chef to prepare your vegan dinner as if you were the only one that he should personally cater to - there are others who are hungry and want what is on the printed menu that he has used his expertise to create. Respect that! Bottom line is: if you have a problem with certain foods on a menu, go somewhere else - as he said, or hire your own personal chef, or, learn how to cook for yourself, but don't be rude because they feed 99.9% of the other people who come in for that chef's food and you are only .1% and do not spread your rudeness and self importance to make everyone else unhappy. missmary, oh yeah, I forgot about the sheers dilemma. I did add them, they are behind the panels, Only to be used when I'm feeling like I'm in a fishbowl. I used a wire system from Ikea. The wire runs between the blind and the panels. Works perfectly for what I need. probookie, fyi the chair are from West Elm, they are the Elephant chairs. Love the name.

It taught me to question further things that I was wondering about. The appliance forum convinced me to work a 30 inch range into the design, even though a 24 inch stove had been planned initially. The Kitchen forum allowed me to brush off the criticism of the tile guy that brushed off subway tiles as "only being used in bathrooms today." But also, for better or worse, it made me a bit defensive that I have a white kitchen. Not in real life, because I love it and it fits my house and it fits my space. But I do bristle when I read posts casting shade on white kitchens. It makes me want to say, "Just walk in my 7" x 10" shoes, and tell me that this kitchen is sterile and passe and you would do something differently." I would probably add an expletive here if it was real life, but I know it's not. It also has given me appliance insecurity, even though I like my appliances and they were chosen with care and with full knowledge of the other options. On the other hand, in some ways, the shade cast on white kitchens and the appliance envy has made me more confident of my choices. I am happy with a white kitchen, and frankly, in my space, anything else would be so out of character for my house and me that it would make me unhappy. Recently, there was a galley kitchen posted here with a bright yellow green backsplash. I loved, loved, loved it. It fit. It wouldn't fit here. Same is true for appliances. I couldn't afford the appliances that others have talked about and debated. GW has let me come to grips with that. On the other, other hand, "If a tree falls in a forest and no one is around to hear it, does it make a sound?" I don't know whether I would have cared about many things if I hadn't been convinced by GW that I should. But I heard the tree fall, and I'm happy for it. If I had to do it all over again, I'd still be here. Bristling over the slams of white kitchens, having appliance envy, wanting to express my opinion that timeless is ephemeral, and whether something is true to the period is less important than whether something is true to your vision.

I think we should all form a club, the NAAPP (National Organization for Picky People.) IÃ¢ÂÂm a complete detail wacko, and that served us well for years in our business. IÃ¢ÂÂm also a perfectionist, and thatÃ¢ÂÂs a blessing and a curse. As others have noted, itÃ¢ÂÂs pretty hard on the people around you, including husbands and other family. As I get older, I really try to not let it run my life. Probably a good ten years of therapy would help me sort out this inner drive! Picky people get a bum rap, but they clearly have a place in the world. Would you like your brain surgeon to be careless with details? Your accountant? Or the guy who builds your pacemaker? With contractors, IÃ¢ÂÂm all over anyone who is trying to get away with a poorly done job. IÃ¢ÂÂm not going to look at a piece of crooked trim for the next 20 years because I wanted him to remember me as a nice person. Usually people who do work for us realize by the end that we really pay attention to the details, and frankly we usually get better work because of it. I bend over backwards to be pleasant, to make up for being such an eagle-eye on the quality. If theyÃ¢ÂÂre leaving a mess that I can clean up myself, IÃ¢ÂÂm happy to do that, because it doesnÃ¢ÂÂt affect the quality of the permanent work. ThatÃ¢ÂÂs an easy compromise for me, and sometimes it helps. Gwlolo, your situation is confusing though, because cleaning is all those people were supposed to do! If I thought it might win me points with the GC (so I could win the next more important battle more easily) IÃ¢ÂÂd probably just clean it up, and maybe find a way to humorously let him know the deep cleaning was only skin deep. On the other hand, you might be doing him a favor to point it out before hand, since heÃ¢ÂÂs paying them, and he may have no idea theyÃ¢ÂÂre really not doing the work he thinks they are. Tough call. Picky people unite!

I'm glad you're picky! I was picky too....that's how I ended up keeping 3 of my pups(but lost Bruiser)...I even had a guy come to pick one up and I said"You're keeping him in the house,right?" He said Oh no,dogs belong outside.I told him....not these ones,they're too small to stay out in the cold and the HEAT....so he stayed with me.It was Ricky...I'm so glad I kept him,he's my little love bug! LOL! He would have went to Mexico and I wasn't comfortable with that.....

Well, cudos to you, girl! I was the same way when I raised dachshunds many years ago. Usually the people who came and picked out puppies, when they were tiny, came and visited them every week or so until they were ready to go.

I really felt that I knew what kind of home the puppies were going to and that they were gonna be loved and taken care of.

I think it's wonderful that you are so picky and if hubby doesn't agree perhaps he needs to spend a few nights out in the doghouse...ROFL.
In all seriousness, thank God there are people like you Lori, who breed dogs for the love of the dog and not the almighty dollar.
If I was a breeder I would be the same, but I wouldn't ever be able to let any of them go so it's just as well that I don't do what you do for a living.

Yay for you, Lori! I'm glad you're having good luck in getting them homes and I think donating the deposit money was brilliant.

Poor little boy dog! He needs a minder! lol I wish I was there to partake in the puppy fest that you're having, it sounds like so much fun.

I am so happy the puppies aren't going to the animal shelter. I kept thinking about them and hoping you would find homes for them. The puppy going to the rodeo clown should have a fun life. It is good that you are picky about the homes the puppies go to.

If more people were "picky" like you there wouldn't be so many animals given to people who aren't worthy of taking care of them. I think its great that you care so much. When I got my cat a few yrs ago....the woman that I got her from asked me tons of questions about myself, my SO and my kids, then she scheduled a time for all of us to come over and meet the cat. We ended up staying for about 2 hrs...then she was satisfied that we would give the cat a good home. (she was an older lady moving from a house to an apartment and couldn't keep her) Now 4 years later we still have the cat and she is spoiled rotten!!!

gone are the days when you could take puppies to the local market and give them away for free...the one dog we had, had one litter before i had her fixed...our town was small and everyone knew everyone else...

Who said anything about an animal shelter?

NEVER will one of my puppies go to a shelter..EVER.
I have a standing agreement with an adoption lady that she will place any puppies I have for a donation to her organization.

One male went to Arizona, one female to St. George Utah and another female to Logan, Utah.

Yesterday a couple picked up this little girl:

She is identical to Tuffy-at-that-age and the peepee chewer.

Note: It is not often Tuffy will demean herself and play with Holly.

The money for this little girl was transferred into my account today. The lady will meet her tomorrow night at a rodeo then come get her next Saturday after a horse show down south. She, I think, is the smartest in the litter. She is the only who can escape the pen and put herself back in . She loves attention but prefers one-on-one interaction. I call her Einstein. She is going to the rodeo clown family:

Then there's Chetter Cheese a partner in crime peepee chewer. She looks like the Dad to Gabby's first litter; his name was Chet.

Then we have the male. He's a goof. A very lovable goof but a goof nonetheless. Look at the hair by his ears! Every day is going to be a bad hair day.

Sometimes I wonder how bright he really is.

Wow! They have gotten so big!
Ya know, the story of these puppies would make a great children's book! A litter of puppies, their unique personalities, and a geography lesson about where they start and where they all go off to for their new homes. Especially the part about the rodeo clown dog. And how they could all fit in a bowl... til they grew! (Maybe not the part about the peepee chewing. LOL) It would be my DS's favorite book! He already comes to ask me "are the pictures of puppies still there?"

LOOK at that little speckled tum-tum! I just want to smooch that little tummy. (Boy tummies are harder to smooch though, can I borrow a girl for a minute?)

Einstein is perfectly adorable and they all look like they enjoy every minute of every day. Happy puppies, how sweet.

Lou does manage to show a little white eyed embarrassment in that picture....maybe he just pretends to be dopey :^)
They are all so cute, lucky I don't live up your way I would be in GRAVE trouble for wanting all of them!!

They are getting so big...my sis raised mini dobies for awhile and she was as bad as you. Her people had to sign a contract and everything....but that to me makes a good/great owner....to be picky like that......Stacy

I know two little boys who'd love a pup of yours. Mom is hanging on by a very thin rope til the snow is gone! LOL

My daughter has 3 pit bulls. (I know pits have a horrible reputation) Well, the male had his way with the female and the result was 10 adorable puppies. She brought the mom and the pups home with her when they were first born. What a brood. She refused to sell the pups to just anyone and took her time getting rid of them. She made arrangements w/ the people that if they felt they couldn't care for them properly (ie lots of love and attention) that she would buy them back. She got one back and found another good home for him, then one guy called her and asked her to watch the pup til he got his own place. She wouldn't give the pup back til he learned the proper way to take care of it. He was feeding it, but not enough and wasn't spending enough time with it. She gave him training and he got his dog back. Both are doing well. She is truly a animal person...even her vet is impressed by her dogs. It's not wrong to take your time to find good homes for animals. Some people just don't know or care to know the proper way to care for them....they're just like kids.....need lots of attention. PS: the pup she kept for herself is Nehemiah which means Jehovah has comforted.

What great names!

I sold the male today.
A rancher up in Idaho wants him.
I quizzed the crap out of him (he passed) and he didn't stutter or pause when I told him what the pup cost.
He will pick up the pup sunday.

That leaves little Chet without a family of her own but I'm not worried. We start high school rodeo the first of March. With the rest of the brood gone I'll be able to spend some time teaching her sit, stay, etc. I've tried but didn't make much headway with them all here. They got a lot of attention and that's good.
