My best decorating decision was.........
Comments (40)...flipping the dining room with the living room. We have a 1960 two-level ranch with a central fireplace between the LR and DR. The DR is a small space, so we turned that into a comfortable sitting room and put the DR in the LR space. Now, we have the fireplace, room for the inherited corner cupboard made by my great-great=grandfather around 1850, an old highboy chest, drop leaf table as sideboard, table that will seat 8-12, and two wing chairs-all without looking crowded. Also, turning the downstairs family room into a library with cherry bookshelves covering two walls, fireplace, and chintz upholstery on the couch. It is very cozy down there. Elsewhere, every upholstered piece is covered with sheets-lol, bumlebeez-glad we aren't the only ones! No worries any more-it's just stuff....See MoreBest Decision
Comments (28)For me it was the re-doing of our bedroom- we have a habit of starting things and taking a year to finish- when we did the bedroom, I told my husband we had to be weekend warrios and had to be done in 2 days. Well, we painted,a sage green, replaced all the woodwork, while my husband was doing that, went to wallpaper store, picked out border in sale bin, (which was absolutey gorgeous), got a new comforter and pictures, everything was hung the next day. The only thing we waited for was new carpeting that the following week, replaced the closet doors and it was done. Its my favorite room in the house now and best thing its all finished....See MoreMs. Indecisive made a decision! Please help with final decision!
Comments (8)Quote: "Disclaimer: *MY* soon-to-be teen boy will not be stupid. (If I repeat that 100 times will it be so?)" Of course it will (see below for disclaimer). I have four kids, three of them boys, and the baby boy is 22 and a senior at the Univ of Florida. So I speak from experience. Promised Disclaimer: Length of time for avoiding stupid actions may vary slightly with age, but shows a high correlation with the quantity of similarly aged onlookers. Studies show their ability to hold back stupidity will, for average mid-teen boys, last approximately 3/4 of a second. For "good boys who listen to their mother", the time has been seen to rise to almost a full second in some rare cases. Unless a REALLY cute girl is there to witness. In which case, and for every boy studied thus far, the retention time falls to such a short interval scientists aren't able to accurately measure the value....See MoreGranite Decision *sigh* yes, another decision to be made

I've seen Black Diamond, Black Pearl, Angola Black, etc. both online and in person and they are even lighter than the Andes. Diamond Black was considered a "rare exotic" but we both loved it so much that we were willing to pay the higher price. [Black Pearl, btw, was a lower price category then Diamond Black @ EXPO...another indication they are not the same.] BethesdaMom2008...actually, if you can get the Verde now it's very inexpensive. They got a great deal on it (they told me why, but I don't think I should repeat it online) and are passing it on to us, if we get it. I don't have the price, but I think they said it would be in price category 1 or 2 (1=least expensive, 7=most expensive)--I'm not positive the exact #. BUT, this is only for this lot. Normally, it's a 6 or 7. I know that at EXPO the Diamond Black was $79/sq ft (category D w/A=least expensive, E=most expensive) and Avanti told me this lot of the Verde was much cheaper than that. If you want the Verde, I would get it NOW and have your fabricator pick it up and save it for you. We've pretty much decided not to go with it...and as of Saturday they had 5 slabs left (including the 3 they set aside for us.) All, I appreciate everyone's suggestions for stoneyards and I am making a note of each place; but we are constrained by who EXPO deals with and right now I only know about Granite Source (Chantilly, VA), Avanti (Frederick, MD), and Universal (Catonsville, MD). But, keep those stoneyard & granite suggestions coming, b/c I'm going to talk to my KD Monday about these other places since Avanti did not have anything I'm in love with...I plan to check Universal next. I know they don't let you pick your slabs (only the lot), but as what I'm looking for is pretty uniform, I may be willing to go along w/that...plus I may talk to my KD about it. She appears to have some pull in a few places (like Avanti! They made an exception in our case b/c we weren't necessarily ready to make a final selection...but they let us come by Saturday anyway!) Avanti, BTW, was great! They were so helpful and friendly--especially Frank & Brian. I highly recommend them for those of you granite, marble, soapstone, and even engineered stone shopping! Note: They hold granite for up to 2 weeks...and they mean it as we looked at some that they told us was not available as it was on hold for someone. [We didn't want it, but it was nice to know that after all the horror stories I've been hearing lately!]...See Morelynninnewmexico
